DRAMATIC LARGE M. GOTTSCHALK DOLL HOUSE. Of German manufacture, from the early part of the 20th century, this large impressive commercially made doll house is basically in untouched original condition with some repairs/replacement parts. Most elaborate in that the front section opens in two pieces exposing a multitude of rooms within (six rooms plus a closet). At the rear of the house a trap door gains access to the attic/servant’s quarters. Retaining its original wallpaper and flooring, however the back panel wall has been replaced some time ago. The exterior of the house retains a large percentage of its original finish and only a small amount of trim being replaced. These trims should be professionally painted to match the rest of the house. At some point in time small porcelain electrical sockets have been installed so the house could be lit. One of the most appealing aspects of this mansion are the three series of porches with pillars, banisters, and the second floor with spectacular crested arches. By comparison, for a red roof, this example is elephantine in size. SIZE: 31″ wide x 37″ high x 20″ deep. CONDITION: House appears to have had front wooden steps at one point in time that are missing. Largely intact, just needing some attention to trims and back panel. 1-7744 (4,000-6,000)

RARE WESTERN UNION TELEGRAPH STOCK TICKER. One of the earliest patented and commercially viable inventions to spring forth from the fertile mind of Thomas A. Edison is this “Universal Ticker” for use by Wall Street. Manufactured and sold between approximately 1873 and 1900. Those that escaped the WWII scrap drives were ordered to be destroyed by Western Union in the early 1960s. It bears the serial number 8024. The working mechanism is constructed on a heavy cast iron base which states “Quotations furnished by the Western Union Telegraph Co. Apply to local manager”. This example comes complete with glass dome (possibly of more recent vintage). SIZE: 13-1/2″ t. x 8” diam. CONDITION: It appears to be in near excellent condition with some very minor paint chipping to cast iron base and complete, but as we are not quite up to speed on the nuances of electro-magnetic engineering, we’re selling the ticker as shown and can not guarantee that every nut and bolt is there. 1-8136 (6,000-8,000)

MAJESTIC SALESMAN SAMPLE STOVE. Often referred to as a salesman sample by many, an outstanding and detailed toy by others. In either case, this is one of the finest miniature stoves ever created with solid construction throughout. This fresh from the attic find is constructed of cast iron and steel, and features a huge oval emblem on the front of the oven door that depicts an ocean liner and is emblazoned with the words “The Great Majestic”. It retains all detachable trays and includes accessories, pots, and pans to complete the package. SIZE: 20-1/2″ h x 18″ w x 15-1/4″ d. CONDITION: Nickel trim has been silver painted many years ago, perhaps an appearance upgrade by a dad for the next generation to enjoy. There is an old crack in stove top frame on the right side. Overall very good with some rust to front. 1-8126 (2,000-3,000)

SPECTACULAR TURN OF THE CENTURY GERMAN STOVE. Of most unusual design and size, this stove dates to the early 20th century and was quite possibly made by the famed Marklin Toy Company. The unusual form is seldom found and constitutes a simulated porcelain finish, most likely emulating a real stove of the time period. A multitude of ovens and stove top cooking areas along with its rarity make this a must have for any stove collector. SIZE: 22″ wide x 21″ tall x 12″ deep. CONDITION: Overall condition is good to very good with uniform wear and paint loss. 1-7930 (1,000-2,000)

PHENOMENAL SALESMAN SAMPLE ROAD GRADER. As salesman samples go, this is perhaps one of the most elaborate and breathtaking pieces ever made. The detail and craftsmanship are unmatched. Created by the Stockland Road Machinery Company of Minneapolis, Minnesota, it represents the Stockland 80 (AKA “The Giant”). Constructed of brass, cast aluminum, wood, and steel, it has a vast array of working levers and gears allowing for a full range of movement of the plow blade and other components. The operator would stand on the wood slat platform at the rear, turning the leaning wheels and levers for a perfectly graded road. Truly a museum quality piece. SIZE: 33″ l x 15″ w x 11-1/2″ h. CONDITION: Near excellent with great patina and smooth operation of all components. 1-7735 (7,000-11,000)

SPECTACULAR 7-1/4″ GAUGE BASSETT-LOWKE LIVE STEAM ENGINE & TENDER. Unbelievable, astonishing, gargantuan are just a few of the words that describe this garden engine and tender by the famed Bassett-Lowke company of England. Made for garden or outdoor railroads, and riding purposes. This immensely detailed model, George the Fifth 4-4-0 British prototype was built in the 1930s and exported to the U.S. It is believed to have been used on the Charnwood model railway, built by C. Norvin Rinek, of Easton, PA. It retains its bronze builder’s plate on the rear of the tender, a brass tag on the engine boiler that reads “George the Fifth”, and number plate below cab window. From a picture one cannot truly perceive the immensity of this piece, a massive 82″ in length. Possibly the same one pictured in the 1948 Bassett-Lowke book (included with this lot). Although these mammoths were available in kit form this example appears to be factory built and painted. The unit, in the past, had been “fired up” for use but it seems that was only on rare occasions as the overall condition is excellent. If large gauge trains are your “cup of tea” then this is an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire such a unique train!! Although not a Marklin, the quality & aesthetics of this piece are equal but at only a fraction of the price a Marklin Garden train would sell for today. Museum quality, would make a great center piece in any railroad, or model train collection. CONDITION: Not to be unexpected due to its size and the fact that this unit is live steam there is some very minor overall touch up to loco and tender most notably the front of engine hood, and appears to have been repainted some time ago. Period paint & pin striping intact with possible exception to front of boiler which is a flat black. Engine and tender appear to be fully and mechanically intact/complete and ready for operation. 1-8099 (15,000-25,000)

LIONEL GIRL’S TRAIN SET. An unbelievable fresh-to-the-market find. In an attempt by Lionel to reach a wider audience, the company created a set for girls in more cheery pastel colors. Not many were sold, making them very scarce today, not to mention being able to find a set with all their original boxes, even the set box! The set includes the engine, tender, canister car, two box cars, hopper car, gondola car, caboose, and transformer. Coming directly from the original owner, they were purchased for her because, coming from a family of all boys, she was left out of much of their fun. Her brothers were not allowed to use it, and the few times she ran the train, she immediately put the set back in their boxes until the next time, which accounts for their stellar condition. CONDITION: Engine has one or two tiny chips on cab roof and one or two tiny rub marks on coupler base. Caboose has one or two minor blemishes on roof. Box car 6464/510 has a few small chips on ladder and one chip missing. Set box number 15875 has two flaps with tattered edges; one box seam is loose; two flaps have brown tape on them, probably original to the set; one corner torn and retaped. 1-7734 (3,500-5,000)

LIONEL ERIE SALESMAN SAMPLE PRE-PRODUCTION BOXCAR. Possibly one of a kind, this early Lionel 6454 series boxcar from the late 1940s is accompanied by a standard production model for comparison. The brown Erie freight car, numbered 81000 on both sides, with the Erie diamond and data on both sides. This car is in very good plus condition with a little bit of rust on one door rail. This car is being used as a sample for the pre-production model. It is thought that this car was a factory sample with experimental lettering. This car has the same number 81000 but the lettering appears to be hand stamped or hand-done. The paint is a cream color rather than white. One side of car shows Erie diamond and the information done in darker paint so it is hardly visible. The other side does have the Erie diamond and information. All the information appears to be hand-lettered. This car was acquired originally from a man that worked for the Lionel Company as a salesman. It is believed that it was presented to the production team, but since the lettering was less visible, they decided to go with the cream lettering instead. CONDITION: Sample car – overall condition is very good, some minor chips on end panel on each end of car, small chip out of catwalk, overall paint is very good subject to previous description. 1-7952 (1,800-2,800)
