MAGNIFICENT BLACK MINSTREL GERMAN CLOCKWORK TOY. Truly a most unique and amazing toy never seen before by this cataloger featuring a black woman playing a banjo accompanied by her gentleman caller adorned in a top hat. The clockwork mechanism with music (plink, plank, plunk) contained within the lady’s hoop dress, the gentleman caller is attached in a most unique way to her skirt. When activated she appears to strum the banjo with her right hand and his upper body as well as head sway to and fro, all while being propelled in a forward motion. In all original untouched condition with some paint flaking/paint loss, this is a must have for a collector of German hand painted tin and/or black Americana. SIZE: 7-1/2″ tall. CONDITION: A small triangular piece of tin lacking in front of skirt that contained a balancing wheel identical to one in rear of skirt. 1-7889 (3,000-5,000)
