Doll has bulging brown paperweight eyes, protruding upper lip, molded tongue between two lips. Overall pale bisque with rouged cheeks. She wears her original underwear and chemise antique brown stockings. Wearing antique green pleated wool dress, antique silk ribbon bonnet, and original signed BRU leather shoes. Her original blonde mohair wig is sparse and has been sewn to another blonde mohair wig to give it fullness. She retains her original cork pate. CONDITION: Overall very good. She wears her original blond mohair wig over cork pate. Well costumed in alternating pale green silk and silk brocade panels with metallic braid and bead trim. Base has original purple velvet color. MARVELOUS BISQUE HEADED CLOWN MAGICIAN AUTOMATON. Truly outstanding and all original Lambert automaton from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Typical of French fashion, the character bisque head features pale white bisque, paperweight eyes, painted facial features, and is adorned with ladybugs and flying insects. The magician is decked in colorful silk clothing and has the most delicate bisque hands imaginable. Through a series of motions (nodding and twisting his head, waving his wand, and tapping the cup) various items mysteriously appear on the table as he gently lifts the cone. FRENCH AUTOMATON OF ASIAN WOMAN POURING TEA. Amber tinted bisque flange Jumeau head with closed mouth and inset brown glass almond shaped eyes, wearing costume of embroidered silk with metallic lace trim. Reference Francois & Florence’s “Jumeau Book”, p. 387, which states the head was “especially commissioned from Jumeau…[and] appears on no other automata.” When wound woman raises and lowers her head, pours tea from teapot in right hand into a cup located on a tray in right hand. Ca. 1910, these all original and very desirable character children feature blue glass sleep eyes, feathered eyebrows, closed pouty mouths, and original blonde mohair wigs. On original jointed pink composition bodies signed on the back with winged trademark of Cuno & Otto Dressel. These dolls, originally from an estate, have been in the same collection for over 30 years. The girl wears blue cotton windowpane checkered dress, full white cotton slip, and pantaloons, socks and white leather shoes with Keystone mark. 20” BISQUE SWIVEL NECK FASHION DOLL. Incised “5,” this doll is attributed to Gaultier. With rare brown glass stationary eyes on an all leather gusseted body, dressed in a magenta velvet dress with lace trim, black lace gloves, black and white knee length stockings, and black leather shoes. Brown human hair wig is over cork pate. Looking past the elaborate clothing, there is a very clean doll with a fine bisque head. EARLY 14” BEAR PROBABLY STEIFF. Mohair straw stuffed bear with jointed legs, arms and head. Squeaker in stomach with red floss nose, floss fingers and toes with glass eyes and is hump backed. Wearing original pink brocade dress with metallic lace overlay and bronze colored coins. When music is wound figure slowly spins in a circle, raises left leg and arms move slightly up and down. MUSICAL CLOWN AUTOMATON PLAYING MANDOLIN. Circa late 19th Century. When wound music plays, clown strums the Mandolin, raises and lowers his left leg and turns papier-mâché head from side to side. RARE EDISON PHONOGRAPH DOLL. 22” (56 cm). With head incised “S12H719DEP”. With brown black paperweight eyes, open mouth with teeth. Body consisting of wooden upper and lower arms and wood and composition legs, metal torso containing Edison patented mechanism. One winds a crank and turns the lever, she sings by way of a miniature cylinder record (1, 2 buckle my shoe 3, 4 shut the door, etc…) She wears her original antique honey colored human hair wig and comes with an antique white cotton dress and underwear as well as white shoes. CLOWN AUTOMATON WITH MAGICAL CHAINS. A fine French Automaton, possibly by Roullet & Decamp. Features a marked “E.D.” open mouth bisque head, painted with clown-like features, bisque hands, and an elaborate silk costume, standing atop a velvet base. When activated, the hat on clown’s head flips from left to right, head turns, and his left hand rises initiating the optical illusion of “cascading chains”. SIZE: 22” t. FRENCH MUSICAL AUTOMATON DIABOLO PLAYER. Perfect bisque head incised “DEP” with blue inset eyes and closed mouth. DAMAGED SIMON & HALBIG DOLL. SIZE: 13-1/2″ (34 cm). Oh, the poor thing. She had a great fall, but can be put back together again. A great project for the doll restorer. In earlier times, she had brown glass stationary eyes, closed mouth and solid dome head. Original fully jointed wood and composition body with straight wrists, which remains in excellent condition. A DASH FOR THE NORTH POLE GAME. Ca. 1897. A scarce and desirable game by famed makers the McLoughlin Bros. with nice large format. Game deals with exciting subject matter of Polar exploration, fashioned after the great expeditions by Byrd or Perry. Lid (missing end flaps) depicts violent encounter between three explorers and two vicious polar bears, not sparing the imagery of bloodshed. Interior shows map of the Arctic Circle and retains original game pieces including brightly stained lead ships. SIZE: 22-1/2″ l. x 16″ h. EXTREMELY RARE GAME OF ALADDIN BY SINGER. Ca. 1890. Possibly the only example known, this fantastical game features a brightly lithographed cover depicting Aladdin descending into the crypt with some trepidation. He is flanked by rocks with nightmarish human faces intimating certain doom. The game board itself is equally impressive, featuring a frightful trail with danger at every turn, highlighted by ghouls, gargoyles, and other pitfalls. A truly outstanding example of early parlor entertainment. SIZE: Box measures 18″ l. x 9-1/4″ w. CONDITION: Some taping to side flaps on box, and minor edge wear. STANLEY AFRICA GAME. Extremely rare Bliss game depicting the famous expedition in deepest darkest Africa that starts at the mouth of the Congo and terminates in Zanzibar. Box lid depicts H.M. Stanley on his mule attended by three armed native scouts. Interior of game is beautifully lithographed with various colleagues of Stanley in vignettes around the perimeter along with scenes from various African localities. SIZE: 18-3/4″ l. x 9-1/2″ w. CONDITION: Box is very strong with crisp bright colors. Only the slightest wear at corners. ELECTION GAME. A rarity from J.H. Singer Co. portraying early political concerns such as woman’s suffrage, prohibition, and general reform. The box lid depicts two fancily dressed Edwardian dandies trumpeting the beginning of the election. The interior consists of six miniature lithographed ballot boxes decorated with scenes of police brutality, the gap between rich and poor, etc. Two individual boxes contain various cards for votes and game cards of different characters, and retains original directions sheet. TRAIN FOR BOSTON GAME. Early Parker Bros. game (Ca. 1900) showing a wonderful steam train pulling into the station as a porter tends to some luggage. THE BOWLING GAME. A rare and charming Singer game whose lid depicting a beautiful Victorian woman poised to strike. RARE MONOPOLY GAME COPYRIGHTED 1933 BY CHAS. B. DARROW AND MADE BY PARKER BROS. Rare early version printed “Chas. Darrow” in ‘Just Visiting” square, which was removed shortly after the game began to become popular. Very few of these games are known to survive. Box is white with “Monopoly” printed across the front. Shows two figures running through the streets of Atlantic City, one with money in his hand. Also marked Parker Bros. Inc. Brightly colored paper litho on wood game that opens to a 90 degree angle that depicts four acrobats with wooden cups that catch and pass a falling marble from the above mischievous looking clown. SCARCE CARPENTER ENGINE HOUSE. Ca. 1882. This wonderful wood, cast iron, and canvas house is referred to in Carpenter’s catalog as number 58. This version has a striped cotton cloth roof. Wood sides enhanced by cast iron windows and two front cast iron doors, hinged and ready to open. This is all surmounted by an elaborate bell tower with brass bell with partial original pull string. Accompanied by old box label mounted to piece of cardboard. SIZE: 26-1/2″ l. x 18″ h. x 10″ w. CONDITION: Canvas top exhibits some distress, cast iron doors appear to be of slightly different shades of red, but believed to be correct and assembled this way at the factory. CARPENTER’S BURNING BUILDING. A hot ticket! Originally found in a Massachusetts attic many years ago, and until recently resided in a private collection. Patented 1882. Perhaps one of the greatest toys ever manufactured. Carpenter, located in Port Chester, New York modeled their building after the brownstones of NYC. The elaborate cast iron façade is mounted on a wooden base with a cast iron sidewalk simulating concrete. This two-story version has the damsel on a fiery balcony awaiting the fireman below to ascend the ladder and bring her down to safety with the pull of a string. The second fireman tends the hose below. This rarer version features an open side door with cast iron jamb with storage area. A truly spectacular toy for the most serious and discerning collector. GENERAL BUTLER STILL BANK. The General is depicted with a frog body and holding a million dollars in his right hand with political sayings on his arms; a slur to his character. Made by J.E. Stevens. FINE DENTIST MECHANICAL BANK BY STEVENS. Just consigned from the widow of a Massachusetts dentist. As found, and fresh to the market! Comical bank portraying the dentist with his gas bag at his feet extracting a large molar from his black patient. When bank is activated, the dentist rears back with molar in hand and the patient falls head over heels backwards, flinging his arms and legs in the air. A rare and desirable bank with great condition and no apparent repairs or replaced parts. SIZE: 9 ½” l. x 3 ½” w. CONDITION: Overall very fine, two small rust spots on gas bag (as seen in photo). PROFESSOR PUG FROG’S GREAT BICYCLE FEAT MECHANICAL BANK. Place coin on rear wheel of bike, wind mechanism, release lever. The frog makes a revolution as coin is deposited in the basket. A very hard bank to find. Manufactured by J & E Stevens, patented in 1892. SIZE: 11-1/4″ l. CONDITION: Overall wear to bank. MASON MECHANICAL BANK. Put a coin in the hod carrier’s hod, press lever, and he throws coin into brick building. Simultaneously the brick layer raises his hands to receive the coin. Made by Shepherd Hardware Co., patented in 1887. SIZE: 7-1/4″ l. CONDITION: Some paint loss to the back of the mason’s coat. Minor chipping to base and hod carrier. Replaced trap. MAGICIAN MECHANICAL BANK. Place coin on table and press the lever; this causes the magician to lower his hat over coin and move his head up and down. Release the lever and he returns to original position and coin mysteriously disappears. Manufactured by J & E Stevens, patented in 1901. SIZE: 8″ h. CONDITION: Wear to flocking on steps, chipping to magician, table and base. Overall very good condition. 1-5275 MC (2,500-3,000)

CHIEF BIG MOON MECHANICAL BANK. Place a coin in the slot to the front of fish’s tail. When lever is operated the large frog springs from under the lake towards the fish. The squaw lifts fish up and away from the frog and the coin is deposited. This is the scarcer red base version of this bank. SIZE: 10″ l. CONDITION: Bank is in excellent condition, with minor chipping to base and little wear on the high points. Missing trap. A superior example. 1-5254 MC (2,750-3,500)

HUBLEY ELEPHANT & HOWDAH MECHANICAL BANK. Outstanding example of this painted bank in cream with red howdah, blue saddle, and gold trim and retains seldom found original Hubley decal. Place coin in elephant’s trunk, pull tail, and coin is deposited in howdah. SIZE: 7 ½” l. x 5 ½”. ELEPHANT AND 3 CLOWNS MECHANICAL BANK. Place coin between front clown’s hoops, press lever back, elephant swings tail knocking coin into base. Simultaneously the tops clown on top of elephant turns. CLOWN ON GLOBE MECHANICAL BANK. Place a coin in the slot, when lever is released ball and clown spin and coin is deposited in bank. This is one of the few mechanical banks that had a wind-up spring mechanism. Manufactured by J & E Stevens, patented in 1890. SIZE: 9-1/4″ h. CONDITION: Bank is all original with original trap. PELICAN MECHANICAL BANK MAN THUMBS NOSE. By Trenton Hardware. Darkly japanned pelican with multicolored with flesh tone face. When coin is inserted in pelican’s head, beak pops open revealing obstinate figure within. SIZE: 7 7/8” h. CONDITION: Some minor wear to japanning, figure is in near excellent condition. PUNCH AND JUDY MECHANICAL BANK. Patented 1884. Depicts Punch and Judy in a puppet show. When lever is set coin is deposited in Judy’s tray and when lever is released coin is deposited in the bank and Punch hits Judy with club. This is the medium letter version of the bank. CHIEF BIG MOON MECHANICAL BANK. Place a coin in the slot to the front of fish’s tail. When lever is operated the large frog springs from under the lake towards the fish. The squaw lifts fish up and away from the frog and the coin is deposited. This is the scarcer red base version of this bank. SIZE: 10″ l. CONDITION: Wear to pond and grass and top of base. EAGLE AND EAGLETS MECHANICAL BANK. Place a coin in the mouth of eagle. When the lever is pressed the eagle tilts forward and drops coin in nest on bank, simultaneously the eaglets rise up. TAMMANY MECHANICAL BANK. Put coin in Tammany’s hand and he slides coin into vest pocket. Tammany was also known as Boss Tweed a corrupt New York City Mayor. Also, this is the rarer fan version.
