FRENCH BALLERINA AUTOMATON. Circa late 19th Century. With closed mouth bisque head incised “2”. On separate bisque shoulder plate and bisque forearms. The dancer moves head, lifts arms up and down, raising flower garland, continually moving as left foot changes positions and body changes angle as she pirouettes. She wears her original blond mohair wig over cork pate. Well costumed in alternating pale green silk and silk brocade panels with metallic braid and bead trim. Base has original purple velvet color. SIZE: Overall height (including music box) 20-1/2″ (52 cm) (height of figure)17” (43 cm).
