BRIGGS & STRATTON “SMITH FLYER”. Ca. early-1920s. Developed by the A.O. Smith Co. of Milwaukee, the manufacturing rights were purchased by Briggs & Stratton in 1920 and were held until 1923. This imaginative vehicle consists of a laminated wood buckboard platform with engine attached to a flywheel/road wheel with engagement lever to put vehicle into motion, two bucket seats (with Briggs & Stratton decals), metal fenders, hand throttle, foot brake, and wooden steering wheel. Likely intended for resort areas, it is a truly fantastic and possibly unique mode of transportation. Comes with custom fitted cloth cover. According to the consignor, the vehicle was purchased by a physician many years ago for his children, but never given to them, which accounts for its near pristine condition. SIZE: 97” l. x 33” w. x 36” h. CONDITION: Near mint with only the slightest of chips, one small crack in one of the platform slats. We understand that the engine runs, but needs some minor service. 1-5602 AT (8,000-10,000)
