PRANG’S CHRISTMAS & NEW YEARS CARDS LITHOGRAPH. Early stone lithograph from the Louis Prang Company of Boston, Mass. This beautiful poster features separate Christmas and New Years card samples that have been inserted under the die cut fingers of its blonde haired messenger. This rare example comes to us descended directly from Louis Prang himself through his living grandson and has been in the family since its printing. A photocopied letter of provenance is included documenting the family connection stating the ad “came to me through my grandmother, daughter of Louis Prang…[who] starting in 1875, put out the first Xmas cards in the U.S. They were so successful, the U.S. government issued a stamp in 1975 celebrating the 100th anniversary. This piece was exhibited at the Smithsonian in 1995.” IMAGE SIZE: 10 1/2” w x 27 3/4” h. CONDITION: Very good to excellent with some light age toning to white areas. 1-5881 PF (600-900)
