RARE WESTERN UNION TELEGRAPH 1871 STOCK TICKER. One of the earliest patented and commercially viable inventions to spring forth from the fertile mind of Thomas A. Edison is this “Universal Ticker” for use by Wall Street. It bears the serial number 5019. The working mechanism is constructed on a heavy cast iron base which is marked “Western Union Telegraph Co.” This example comes complete with glass dome and its wood base, and is prominently displayed on a fluted wood classical column. Gordon Geeko will be green with envy. SIZE: 58″ h on pedestal base. CONDITION: It appears to be in very good condition with some paint chipping to cast iron base and complete, but as we are not quite up to speed on the nuances of electro-magnetic engineering, we’re selling the ticker as shown and can not guarantee that every nut and bolt is there. 1-5653 PF (6,000-10,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Fall 2005 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
