MUSICAL CLOWN AUTOMATON PLAYING MANDOLIN. Circa late 19th Century. When wound music plays, clown strums the Mandolin, raises and lowers his left leg and turns papier-mâché head from side to side. SIZE: Overall height (including music box) 21” (54 cm) ( figure seated) 17” (44 cm). CONDITION: Music strong, mechanism works well, although lacking key. Probable repainting of face and replacement of fabric in costume.
