SN 302282. Cal. 16 ga. 27-7/8″ Chromox fluid steel bbls. 2-1/2″ chambers. Chokes Full/Full. Full length matted top rib with steel front bead. #4 weight. Dbl triggers, extractor, auto safety. Capped pistol grip buttstock checkered in two-point pattern with 14-1/8″ LOP over orig lined HRBP. Buttstock has been broken through the wrist with three pins holding it together on right side. Splinter forearm with Deely release checkered in two-point pattern. Receiver is nicely engraved in typical Philly A grade pattern and marked “Ansley H. Fox”. Weight: 6 lbs. 1 oz. CONDITION: Very good as found, except for buttstock as noted above. Bbls retain approximately 75% lightly toned orig blue. Receiver retains approximately 30-35% orig case color. Engraving is sharp. Both bbls have white synthetic beads and orig beavertail forearms of fancy checkered walnut. Boxlock action with auto ejectors and dbl triggers. Fancy walnut stock has hand checkering and hard rubber pistol grip cap. LOP: 15-1/8″ over aftermarket Decelerator pad. CONDITION: Both sets of bbls have good blued finish with good bright bores. Capped pistol grip buttstock checkered in flowing wave and fleur-de-lis pattern is of high quality French Walnut with 14-1/2″ LOP over orig hardened solid red pad. Trap forearm is nicely checkered in fleur-de-lis pattern with triangular ebony insert at tip. Receiver is full coverage engraved in floral and punch dot shaded pattern with man on trap line on left, and scene of Diana on right. This is a rare variation for a Grade 5. Straight grip stock checkered in fleur-de-lis and flowing wave pattern with gold shield at toe and 13-3/4″ LOP over Silver’s type recoil pad. Trap forearm is nicely checkered in fleur-de-lis and wave pattern with triangular ebony tip. Receiver is beautifully engraved, likely by McGraw, with American Eagle on right surrounded by flower and geometrical design engraving and man at the trap line on left in same floral pattern. Dbl triggers, extractor, auto safety. Capped pistol grip buttstock checkered in two-point pattern with checkered side panels and 13-5/8″ LOP over Ithaca Gun marked buttplate. Receiver stamped “Ithaca Hammerless” on both sides in light scroll pattern. Splinter forearm checkered in three-point pattern. Weight: 6 lbs. 13 oz. CONDITION: Very good. Bbls retain nearly all of bold orig pattern with heavy coat of old lacquer still scattered and present. Receiver is chain link border engraved and marked “LeFever Arms Co.” on both sides. Pivot opener top lever and cocking indicators. Full length trigger guard tang as is typically seen on these early cocking rod LeFever’s. Bore diameter: left – .760, right – .770. Bore restrictions: left – .002 (IC), right – .003 (IC). Minimum wall thickness: left – .040, right – .030 . Weight: 7 lbs. 15 oz. Drop at comb: 1-9/16″, drop at heel: 3″. LOP: 13-7/8″. PROVENANCE: Private single owner advanced LeFever Collection. CONDITION: Very good. Receiver retains hints of muted case color, appears untouched and uncleaned since new. Bbls are good retaining 70-80% of their orig twist pattern. NSN. Cal. 10 ga. Quarter octagon, 30″ three-quarter round bbl with brass front bead. Top of bbl marked “DANGERFIELD & LEFEVER AUBURN NY”. Back action lock with single hammer on right side of action, F.S. Dangerfield’s patent thumb push opener. Action made with short steel nose cap and no forearm. Buttstock checkered in 2-pt pattern with round knob and 14-3/8″ LOP over full steel buttplate. Weight: 7lbs. 11oz. CONDITION: Excellent and amongst the finest of this extremely rare example this cataloger has seen. Metal surfaces with an even brown and scattered minor surface discoloration. Buttstock is very good with open pores. There is a minor grain separator on left side of receiver and a large knot on right side of butt, near buttplate. Wood shows minor shrinkage around buttplate and buttplate is good with evidence of old erosion. Bore is very good with minor pitting. Steel capped full pistol grip buttstock checkered in 3-pt pattern with silver oval and approx 14″ LOP over full steel buttplate. Oval at toe with original owner’s name “JOHN U STURR”. Splinter forearm, checkered in elongated 2-pt pattern with Deeley release and horn tip. Receiver is nicely engraved; setter on left pointer on right in game scene, turkey? on bottom all surrounded by light scroll. Trigger guard with setter soft mouthing a fallen woodcock. Lockplate marked “NICHOLS & LEFEVER”. CONDITION: Good as found and unrestored. Bbls with scattered light staining show about 1/3 of the original pattern. Buttstock and forearm are good with scattered light handling marks and scratches. Right bottom stock finger is broken and there are several incipient cracks around frame, which can be easily fixed. Right trigger is broken and missing. Mechanics are good. Bores with scattered pitting. 16-1/2″ w x 28-1/4″ h. This extremely rare poster with both top and bottom bands. Resting setter with harvested grouse in his mouth in mountain and field scene painted by Ralph Carlyle Prather, noted sporting artist. On top “Whoever saw a broken Lefever” in black print and on bottom in red “Lefever Guns”. “Double barrel $28.25 / Single barrel $16.00”. CONDITION: Condition is excellent as partially restored, shows areas of inpainting and restoration. Main image is excellent. There are several light creases, most notably on left side and one small pinhole in bottom left corner. In nearly 30 years of collecting, LeFever paperwork and guns, this is only the second example of this poster cataloger has encountered. Dbl triggers, extractor, round ball grip checkered in three-point pattern with repair running behind both locks and 14-1/4″ LOP over full steel buttplate with brass shield near toe. Splinter forearm with wedge fastener and horn tip checkered in three-point pattern. Receiver is lightly scroll engraved as is trigger guard and top lever. Hammers are nicely knurled and fishhead engraved on tops. Weight: 8 lbs. 0 oz. CONDITION: Good to very good for this unusual maker. Bbls are very good with light staining and a few minor pings though retain most of their pattern. Buttstock and forearm are restored and retain most of of an old coat of heavy varnish. Buttstock with separation behind locks as noted above which should be repaired. Receiver with a heavy coat of old varnish. May clean and there could be case color underneath the varnish. Miller single selective trigger, auto ejectors. Splinter forearm and straight hand stock with teardrop points of fancy walnut having hand checkering and nameplate on toeline. LOP: 14-1/8″ to checkered butt. Drop at comb: 1-1/2″; drop at heel: 2-7/8″. Housed in leather covered luggage case having unattached Griffin & Howe label and canvas cover. Engraved in standard “Platinum” pattern with pheasants in farm scene on right and left surrounded by nicely executed scroll engraving. Bottom of frame with harvested pheasant in the mouth of what appears to be a Lab surrounded by finely executed scroll engraving. Housed in its orig Galazan/CSM A-10 American steel case with black velvet liner. Included in case is orig instruction manual and choke tube set which are in their leather housing.
