Magazine marked “P.38v/U”, markings hard to read due to French phosphate finish. Safety positions “S” in white and “F” in red. Full SN is repeated on left side of frame, under bbl and on locking block. “U” inspection marking on right side of slide, and left side of frame. Late, dark brown ribbed grips with the left panel having a rectangular recess for lanyard loop. Eagle “88” inspected magazine. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Collection Of Noted Expert And Author Warren Buxton. CONDITION: Nearly 100% of re-dipped salt blue with no evidence of polishing or metal refurbishment. The safety positions have been re-painted with a freshened white “S” and a freshened red “F”. Locking block is correctly in-the-white. Left grip panel is excellent with the right panel having noticeable losses near the base. Excellent mag. Bright bore with strong rifling. Excellent manual mechanics. Steel frame. Black plastic checkered grips. Two magazines marked Walther banner, “P38 9mm”. Accompanied by factory matching box and test target. Steel cleaning rod and proper manual. 1) WALTHER P38. SN 3728. Cal. 9mm. 5″ bbl. Marked “P.38”, SN and “ac45” on left side of slide. Eagle 359 on right side of slide and bbl lug. None of the SN’s are matching. Eagle 140 inspector code on frame. Unmarked magazine. Dark Bakelite grips. Described on p. 264, pictured on p. 265 of The P.38 Pistol, Vol. I by Warren Buxton. Accompanied by black leather flap holster marked eagle swastika WaA 369, partial date visible. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Collection Of Noted Expert And Author Warren Buxton. CONDITION: Very good as mis-matched. Retains most of orig finish with wear on front grip strap. Markings are clear. Fine grips. Excellent bore. Excellent working order. Holster is worn, stitching is solid, marks are faint. Brass rivet at top back of holster, appears to have had one on right side as well, now missing. C&R 2) AC/WALTHER P38. SN 9691. Cal. 9mm. 5″ bbl. Marked “P.38 ac”, SN. Eagle 359 inspected. “ac” marked on left trigger guard web. This gun is not dated. Matching SNs on frame, slide, bbl, and magazine. Proper SN range for an undated gun. Magazine is unmarked aside from the SN of gun on the floorplate. Bbl appears to have originally been stamped with another number, the remnants of which are still visible. Dark brown Bakelite grips. This gun is described on p. 226, pictured on p. 227 of The P.38 Pistol, Vol. I by Warren Buxton. Accompanied by a brown leather clam shell holster marked on back “lyo”, eagle WaA77, and “P.38”. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Collection Of Noted Expert And Author Warren Buxton. CONDITION: Good, showing finish wear, most likely an arsenal refurbish. Markings are clear. Bore has strong rifling with light pitting. Excellent working order. Holster is solid with minor tear at bottom, light scuff marks, strong stitching.
