*FINE MAUSER MANUFACTURED S/42 1937 DATE LUGER AND BYF 1942 DATE P-38.
1) MAUSER P-08 LUGER. SN 328r. Cal. 9mm. Fine straight specimen of S/42 Mauser Luger with Weimar Era style droop-winged eagle proofs. Mismatched 4856v aluminum based mag with Eagle over 63 proof. Other visible parts appear matching. Grip number not discernible inside grips. CONDITION: Overall finish and appearance extremely fine. Over 90% blued finish with high edge wear to bare metal and some areas of light pitting. Markings are very clear. Straw is over 80%. Bore has strong rifling turning dark in grooves. Grips show some bruised diamond wear and loss of several diamonds, particularly on the right side, but overall a clean and handsome pistol with 1934 dated ROBERT LARSON holster. C&R 2) BYF/ MAUSER P-38. SN 1378a. Cal. 9mm. Straightforward relatively early “byf42” Mauser P-38 with typical Eagle over 135 proof marks and reproduction mag. Bbl, frame, and slide all matching SN. Trigger fires in sgl action only. Otherwise, appears functional. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish very good to fine with several scattered spots of poor storage pitting, mostly along high points with finish otherwise thinning to bare metal particularly at high points. *LOT OF TWO MILITARY HANDGUNS.
1) JAP TYPE 94. SN 67881. Cal. 8mm Nambu. 3-3/4″ bbl. Typical late war specimen of the type 94 pistol with smooth grips. Manufactured by Nambu’s gun company under Nagoya arsenal supervision in 1945 February. Mag is #015. The fit of this pistol is quite nice for this model. Lanyard loop not present to rear of safety. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Overall appearance and condition extremely fine to excellent, with little to no apparent use. Screw slots on left side show evidence of turning and some slight greying to the finish where it is thinning. Bore is shiny and bright with some slight corrosion near the muzzle. C&R 2) SMITH & WESSON 1917. SN 69035. Cal. .45 ACP. 5-1/2″ bbl, full blue finish with plain 2-pc walnut grips. Top of bbl shows 2-line S&W address and patent mark. Left side of bbl reads “S.&W.D.A. 45”. Bottom of the bbl toward the muzzle is stamped “United States Property”. A Springfield Armory Eagle proof is stamped at the bottom breech of the bbl. Military inventory NO. 104785 appears on the bottom of the bbl flat, rear face of cyl, and on the butt of the grip. *NOTE* This is not a SN. SN 69035 is stamped on the crane mortise of the frame and on the crane opposite the mortise. Frame has Springfield Eagle proof stamped on left side at rear of trigger bow, there is an ordnance bomb proof stamped on the left top side near the hammer. Butt is marked U.S. over Army Model 1917 at the heel with Army military inventory number stamped at the toe as noted. Cyl has Springfield Armory Eagle proof stamped on the rear face along with the Army inventory number as noted. Right grip has Army inventory number written in pencil at the top. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 95% blue finish with only slight wear on the left and right side of the muzzle. Markings are sharp and clear. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Frame also retains 95%+ of the blue finish with a few light scratches, especially on the right front of the frame. Grip straps show very slight wear. All markings are sharp and clear. Cyl retains 95% of the blue finish with a few small spots between two flutes and slight drag mark around the rear periphery. Grips are fine with only a few small handling marks and 1 small dent on the bottom of the left grip. (*NOTE* Most of the markings on this revolver have been filled with white machinist ink in order to make them clearly readable.) Accompanied by one orig blue body, split base magazine. Left side of the slide and adjacent on the frame are marked with the WaA 140 Waffenampt mark along with a tiny spread winged eagle. CONDITION: Very good plus. Retains about 88-90% thinning orig blue with fine spots of pitting on left side of slide and left front edge of frame. Backstrap is a dull orig blue and the front strap shows a mostly cleaned area with scattered fine pitting. Grips show light to moderate wear with a hand worn patina. Standard configuration pistol whose left slide is marked with the Walther banner with the 2-line Zella-Mehlis address, suffixed by “Mod PPK”. 60 degree safety, fire position denoted with a red dot. The right side of the slide is marked with the full SN that is repeated on the right side of the frame. Eagle/N proofing on the right side of the exposed chamber and immediately below on the slide. Police use is reflected by the Eagle/F on the left side of the frame. Late war black plastic Walther wrap-around grip secured with a single screw. Fixed lanyard at base. SN 70094A. Cal. 9mm. Browning High Power Nazi proofed with post war police holster. Slide receiver and bbl are matching numbered. Wartime finish. Nazi proof on slide receiver and bbl. Front sight is narrow, rounded flat type. Rear sight is flat with U-notch. Stocks are European wood with checkering inside a plain border. Rear grip strap is slotted for shoulder stock. Left side of slide marked “FABRIQUE NATIONALE D’ARMES DE GUERRE” over “HERSTAL BELGIQUE” over “BROWNING’S PATENT DEPOSE”. Accompanied by a near new postwar police-type holster and spare mag. Inside flap of holster is marked with questionable Nazi type acceptance mark. CONDITION: Stock screws show minor buggering with numerous dings and dents on edges. Finish is thinning all over. Bore is dirty but lands appear to be crisp. Primary mag with button floorplate disassembly is in near pristine condition. Spare mag is a postwar later-type with tang for floorplate removal. 1) MAUSER BROOMHANDLE. SN 916658. Cal. 7.63. 5-1/2″ bbl with blue finish overall. Late production 1930 pattern with crown “U” proofs. Typical late production Broomhandle, likely made for the then Asian market. Commercial series with no military markings, with Mauser banner commercial stock with proper non-numbered iron. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, with most blue finish remaining with typical light finish loss on bbl and forward section of mag assembly from being housed in its wooden holster stock. With over 95% blue finish remaining. Grips are exceptionally fine with slight bruising and oil staining. Grips are not numbered which is appropriate for commercial 1930 model. Varnish finish is somewhat worn on grips with approximately 50% remaining. Commercial banner stock consistent with condition of pistol is very fine. Oil finished with slight bruising, however, no cracks or breakage. Finish on iron is thinning with approximately 30% remaining, as with hinge in same condition. An exceptional example. Left slide marking “Colt’s Standard Patent and Address with last patent date September 9 1902”. Circled Rampant Colt to rear of slide. Left upper trigger guard bow marked “VP”. Left lower trigger guard bow marked “6”. Right trigger guard bow is blank. Smooth short trigger. Checkered flat hammer. Stocks are brown molded plastic with Colt and Rampant Colt emblems. Brass escutcheon rings around screws. Front sight is thin, tapered and rounded. Rear sight is rounded with rnd notch. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Slight pitting in fire bluing on trigger, both sides. Slight pitting around recoil spring retaining pin. Slight erosion to rear grip strap. Slight erosion on high edges. *UNUSUAL CHINESE COPY OF MAUSER 1930 COMMERCIAL, MARKED WAUSER, WITH LEATHER HOLSTER.
SN 29308. Cal. 30. Interesting Chinese copy of a Mauser 1930 Commercial with 5″ bbl having fixed front sight and slip-in 50-1000 rear sight. Short extractor and 2-lug firing pin. Top of chamber with crudely lettered Mauser address. Left chamber flat with an elongated Crown/U, the right chamber flat with a scriptic “M” (instead of antler proof). On the left side of the frame is a WAUSER logo. A coarsely lettered and misspelled 3-line address is on the right side of frame. Full SN appears on left side of bbl extension, top of bolt, and on the back of the frame just under the locking lever. Most of the small parts, including the entire sight bar, are salt blued with the bolt, hammer and sub-frame appearing as stained metal in-the-white. Serrated walnut grips that are thicker than those used by Mauser retained by a flat-headed screw. Lanyard ring made from crudely coiled and now separating round wire. Near excellent holster with two attached pouches for stripper clips and brass rings on obverse surface for shoulder strap that has separated into several segments. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Approx 97% salt blue over metal that shows irregular polishing and a few surface imperfections, expected freckling on grip straps. Unfinished metal with moderate staining. Crisp grips. Generally bright bore with sharp rifling and mild oxidation. Perfect manual mechanics. 1) FN HI-POWER. SN 205514. Cal. 9mm. Blue military finish with 4-3/4″ bbl, fixed sights and rnd hammer spur with hole. Mounted with checkered walnut grips. Accompanied by one orig blue body, split base magazine. Left side of the slide and adjacent on the frame are marked with the WaA 140 Waffenampt mark along with a tiny spread winged eagle. Left front web of the trigger guard is stamped with a small “M”. This pistol still has the magazine safety which was mostly disabled between 1940-1943. Most of these pistols usually saw hard service during the war and afterward and are rarely found today with high orig finish. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Very fine, all matching. Overall retains about 96-97% strong orig blue with only sharp edge wear and some minor thinning to the backstrap & heel. Grips are sound and show light diamond point wear. Mechanics are crisp. Strong, sharp bore dark in the grooves. C&R 2) J.C. HIGGINS 80. SN 569249. Cal 22 LR. 6-1/2″ trapezoid bbl, plain sights, full blue finish, 1-pc Bakelite grip with thumb rest & checkering. Left side of bbl shows caliber designation over “583.800”. Left side of slide is marked “Model 80 J.C. Higgins” in a recess. SN appears on the right side of the slide toward the front and on the right side of the frame at the rear. Magazine is marked “HS” on the bottom right surface. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl shows 90% bright blue with some muzzle wear and a few scratches on the bottom surface. Top of bbl is matte finished with a few scratches. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Slide also retains 95% plus bright blue finish on both sides with clear markings. Top of slide is also matte finished with a few scratches near the back sight. Frame is matte finished and shows minor high point wear and a few scratches on the trigger guard. Grip is good and shows cleaning overall. Left side of grip is heavily marred on the bottom half. Magazine retains almost all of the blue finish. These pistols were made by Hi-Standard on contract for Sears & Roebuck Co. C&R 3) FN 1910. SN 469477. Cal. 32. Fabulous prewar FN 1910, blue engraved with gold trigger and smooth mother-of-pearl grips. Standard configuration FN 1910 with small sights within knurled channel. Left side of slide with usual two-line legend referencing FN and Browning’s patent right. Just below slide address is set of Belgian proofs that are repeated on adjacent frame. Additional proofs and cal are marked on bbl with full SN on right frame. Other than slide address and areas set aside for proofing and SN, virtually entire slide and most of sides of frame are covered in a lavish scroll. Subdued accents on the trigger guard, front strap, grip safety and magazine release. Fitted with gold plated trigger and smooth mother-of-pearl panels. Standard blued mag with FN logo and cal marked on right side. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: At least 98% orig rust blue with minimal thinning of grip safety/mag release area of backstrap. Gold plating on trigger is at least 99% and mother-of-pearl grips present extremely well with only a small missing chip from the upper right corner of the right panel. Mirror bright bore. Perfect manual mechanics though the slide will not stay open when safety is pushed up to engage the front retention notch. SN 36837. Cal. 9 MM. Commercial blue finish with 4-3/4″ bbl, fixed sights and standard slide markings. Left front web of trigger guard is marked “SILESIA”. Hammer has rnd spur with hole and pistol is mounted with checkered walnut grips. Accompanied by one 13-rd magazine with push button base plate that is enameled. A notation on the Internet states that Silesia is a distributor in Germany. CONDITION: Very fine plus, all matching. 1) STEYR MODEL 1907. SN 27700. Cal. 9 mm Steyr. 5″ bbl. Budapest marking on top of bbl shroud. Rust blue finish overall. The first successful double action automatic pistol to ever see military service. Later pattern with large pin visible on right side of frame. Austrian date and property marking of 1913 on back of frame with two piece grooved wood grips complete with hardshell flap holster dated 1912 with apparent capture markings on back by a Mr. Markey Frank with a US Service Number 3359260 with the previous owner Militarintdk Ed. Rotter dated 1914. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine with only slight traces of edge wear at base of lanyard loop and high points and edges of bbl shroud, muzzle and rear of ejector port. Bore and mechanics are exceptional. Holster, while having some loose stitching at ammunition carrier and missing stitches on rear of flap. Leather is supple, however does have slight scuffing and distress consistent with age. A very fine rig and would be hard to improve upon. C&R 2) PLUS ULTRA AVIATOR. SN 16222. Cal. 32 ACP with unusual extended grip frame and high capacity double stacked magazine with the capacity of approximately 20 rounds. Manufacture marking and label “Plus ultra” with a set of aviator’s wings and prop on left hand side of slide with Spanish proofs on back left of frame and magnificent horn grips with the same wing with crossed prop logo on both sides. A very rarely seen firearm, often seen in pictures but rarely in person. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Good overall with most metal finish having turned plum with areas of finish loss on approximately 2/3’s of gun with balance having turned to a dove gray. Magazine is well intact, mechanics and bore seem to be fine when manually operated. C&R 3) HUSQVARNA MODEL 1907. SN 43180. Cal. .380ACP. 5″ bbl. Very high quality and attractive, not to mention rare Husqvarna pistol with orig leather holster and three mags total. Typical maker’s name on left side with orig logo hard rubber grips and lanyard ring at left side. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Overall appearance extremely fine to near excellent as refinished over what appears to be fine bead blasting, giving it a matte feel. Grip screw shows slight evidence of turning with only some slight wear to the grip panels. Bore is excellent, shiny and bright. Holster is extremely fine with some green verdigris at brass fastener. *VERY FINE WALTHER MODEL PPK RZM CALIBER 7.65 PISTOL WITH HOLSTER.
SN 843677. Cal. 32 ACP. 3-1/4″ bbl with Crown N proofs on chamber and slide below ejection port. Left side of slide has traditional Walther banner with 2-line Walther address and caliber “7.65”. “Model PPK” with proper and correct “RZM” marking just forward of safety and serrations. Walther banner marked 1-pc wraparound mottled brown grips with very slight shrinkage at base and minor warp-age at top front. With both flat base and finger rest Walther banner magazines and is encased in a German date coded brown leather with white stitching holster dated “44”. CONDITION: Very fine overall, retaining virtually all of its high polish commercial blue with slight tarnishing on polished chamber and typical slight muzzle wear from holster use. Address, model markings and RZM markings are exceptionally clear with no distress. Right side of frame at SN has a slight scratch from top of frame to bottom of trigger guard. Front strap and trigger guard are excellent, retaining all of their finish. Bore and mechanics are excellent and crisp.
