RARE WWII ERA USN DIVER’S KNIFE COMMEMORATING THE GREATEST SUBMARINE RESCUE IN AMERICAN HISTORY OF “DIVER 1ST CLASS F.H. O’KEEFE, USN”.

Rare Navy divers knife made by “MFD. BY BATTERYLESS TEL. EQUIP. CO. INC. / PITTSBURGH, PA.” 6-15/16″ sturdy, double edged blade with saw teeth on top. Screw-in solid brass sheath inscribed “SQUALUS SALVAGE UNIT/ MAY 23, 1939 /TO / F. H. O’KEEFE, COX..USN / DIVER FIRST CLASS”. The rescue of the USS Squalus in 250 feet of water was an unprecedented Navy rescue that would result in four Congressional Medals of Honor, 46 Navy Crosses and a Distinguished Service Medal. Since 1921, almost 1,000 men had died in submarine accidents; no rescue attempt had ever succeeded until this operation. The provenance on line should be read of the heroic action involving this ship. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Fine overall. Appears unused. SN 1005611. Cal. 218 BEE. 24″ rnd bbl, half magazine, full blue finish. Nicely figured American walnut stocks with checkered pistol grip and forearm. Pistol grip is capped. Checkered steel shotgun buttplate. Bbl shows Winchester Model and Cal. designation marked at the left breech with the Winchester address on the right. Front sight is hooded and mounted on a ramp. Rear sight mortise has been plugged with no evidence of a rear sight having been mounted. “WP” proofs are struck on bbl breech and receiver ring. SN is stamped on froward bottom of receiver. Upper tang is marked “WINCHESTER / TRADEMARK”/ MADE IN USA”. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 95% orig blue finish that has drifted to a plum patina toward the muzzle. Markings are sharp. Front sight is very good. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Receiver also retains 95% orig blue with only a few handling marks and no carry wear. Hammer and lever both retain most of the blue finish. Loading gate also retains most of the fire blue. Stocks are fine, full sized, retaining most of the orig varnish finish and only minuscule handling marks. Buttplate retains most of the blue finish, as does the forend cap. Mechanics are crisp. SN 1903. Cal. 38 Spcl. Scarce target version with full nickel finish. 5-screw action with pinned bbl. Bbl is 6-1/2″ rnd with square cut blade front sight and U notch adjustable rear sight. 6-shot fluted cylinder. Nickel finish with case colored hammer and trigger. Rnd butt pearl grips have gold S&W medallions. Frame and bbl have matching SN’s. In continuous production since 1899, the current version of this famed revolver is known as the Model 10. Includes S&W factory letter signed by historian Roy G. Jinks. Letter states this revolver was shipped on April 24, 1900 to Kinco, Maine. PROVENANCE: The collection of Robert Roughton. CONDITION: Very good condition, Factory refurbished in January 1959. Retaining over 95% nickel finish. Hammer and trigger retain 95% case colors. Right grip panel is chipped at bottom of frame. RARE AND UNIQUE AMERICAN EAGLE POMMEL ARTILLERY OFFICER’S SWORD WITH ARTICULATED CANNON CROSS GUARD.

This unique Spies, NY marked sword has Damascene quill back 28-3/4″ blade. Carved ivory grip, eagle head pommel, fine engraved gilded scabbard with Liberty cap and American Indian. The unique and most unusual feature of this sword is the cannon barrel cross guard on partial carriage with articulating wheels. This is the only example that we are aware and most likely custom made. CONDITION: Very good to fine overall. Blade is overall grey with staining and pinprick pitting showing clear Damascene patterns, etched “SPIES”. Scabbard throat has unusual arc which precisely fits the underside of the carriage cross guard with the still turnable gilded carriage wheels. Scabbard and hilt retain about 80% of their orig gold plate with sharp engraved panels. Carved ivory grip has several hairlines with hand worn patina. UNUSUAL OVER-UNDER FLINTLOCK PISTOL BY SMITH OF LONDON.

NSN. Cal. 50 cal. Integral 4″ bbl/ breech/ breech iron group, with platinum touch holes and gold band at breech end, is engraved “SMITH LONDON” on top flat. Bottom flat is marked “7K-S 1010”. Locks with very unusual external mainsprings which double as frizzen springs connect to small reinforced cocks with swivels. Locks also feature sliding safeties, waterproof pans, and bridled frizzens. Locks are engraved with feather borders, and some scroll. Steel trigger guard has shield and floral engraving on bow. Well marbled European walnut stock with checkered bag grip, has steel cap with screw-in loading rod. CONDITION: Good. Metal parts retain essentially all of a fine of the period English refinish. SN 25832. (1923) Cal. 12 ga. 2-5/8″ Chambers. 30″ Bbls with narrow, matted rib, are marked “CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL” and “MADE BY A.H. FOX GUN Co. PHILA. PA. U.S.A.” on tops, twin ivory beads. Breech ends are engraved with 2″ flourishes of large open shaded scrolled acanthus. Bbl flats are stamped with SN, grade, and Fox proof. Outer edges of flats and cocking slide, are damascened. Case hardened action with rebated back features automatic safety and Kautzky single selective trigger in rear position. Action is engraved in typical second generation “X” style with large shaded stylized oak leaves and acorns surrounding oval vignettes of flying quail on each side under “ANSLEY H. FOX”. Bottom of action depicts a fox in mountainous background. Well marbled and nicely figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14″ over leather faced Silver type pad. Side panels are checkered and checkering at grip is in semi-fancy backed modified point pattern. Attenuated splinter ejector forend has inset ebony tip and Deeley type release. Bore diameter: left-.728, right -.729. Bore restrictions: left -.039 (full), right -.042 (full). Minimum wall thickness: left -.035, right -.025. Drop at heel: 2-5/8″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 7 lbs. 6 oz. LOP: 14″. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining a high percentage of orig finish on wood and metal, bbls over 85% blue, with a few minor marks and scratches, action over 90% vivid color, thinning and silvering on bottom and sharp edges, stocks most of their orig finish, grain somewhat raised. Checkering is slightly worn. Both stocks have a number of marks and scratches. Forend has considerable denting toward tip. There are some light chips behind action tang on buttstock. Bores are very fine, with some light frosting, and a couple of inconsequential raised dents on bottom of left bbl. Action is tight. Ejectors are in time. Trigger works well. CONDITION: Fine and appears totally orig, honest, and completely untouched. Bbls retain approximately 90% orig blued finish with some spotting and beginning erosion particularly on right tube towards muzzle and on left side of rib towards muzzle. Receiver retains at least 70% gorgeous original case color. Buttstock and forearm are excellent and retain 95% orig finish with beautiful open pores and finish opening up on butt. According to the Parker story there are only 79 in this configuration and only approximately 5% have straight grips, confirming this gun as an extremely rare Parker. Bbl shows Winchester trademark, model designation and Cal. mark rolled on left breech behind rear sight. “WP” proof is struck on top of bbl and receiver. SN appears on bottom forward part of frame with matching number stamped on adjacent trigger guard. Right side of receiver is marked “WINCHESTER / TRADEMARK” and is filled with red ink. Stocks are highly figured crotch grain American walnut. Pistol grip and forend are both checkered in a “Fleur-des-lis” pattern. Buttplate shows Winchester logo. *COLT MODEL 1911-A1 SERVICE MODEL ACE PISTOL WITH FACTORY LETTER.

SN SM819. Cal. 22 LR. 5″ bbl, full blue finish. 2-pc checkered walnut grips. Adjustable rear sight. SN is stamped on right side of frame above trigger. Left side of slide shows 2-line Colt address and patent mark. Right side of slide is marked “COLT SERVICE MODEL ACE .22 LONG RIFLE”. Magazine is of the 2-tone variety. Base is marked “COLT ACE 22 LR”. Accompanying this pistol is Colt factory letter confirming features and showing shipment to Abercrombie & Fitch Co, New York, on November 17, 1938, in a one gun shipment. CONDITION: Very fine. Slide retains 95% orig bright blue finish with some slight muzzle wear. Temper marks are evident. All markings are sharp and clear. Rear sight is excellent. Bore is bright with sharp rifling. Frame retains 95% plus bright blue finish, as does grip safety and other small parts. Mechanics are crisp. Grips are sharp with only one small dent on the left panel.
