*GORGEOUS PERAZZI MX2000/8 20 GA SHOTGUN WITH CASE.

SN 140916. Cal. 20 ga. 29-1/2″ bbl. 3″ chambers. Screw in Briley choke tube set. Full length low profile matted ventilated top rib with white mid bead and orange front bead. Gold plated non-selective sgl trigger, auto ejectors, non-auto safety. Buttstock checkered in two-point pattern with full knob pistol grip and 14-/1/2″ LOP over black foam Perazzi pad. Forearm checkered in four-point pattern with Schnable tip and Deely release. Case hardened action is beautifully engraved with gold inlay of “Perazzi MX2000″ on sides. Fabulous Brittany in gold inlaid on bottom, surrounded by well executed scroll engraving. Trigger guard, floorplate and top lever are nicely rose and scroll engraved. Housed in a red hard plastic Perazzi case with black interior and choke tube set and other miscellaneous accessories included. Bore diameter: Bottom .632, Top .632. Drop at comb: 1-7/16. Drop at heel: 2”. Weight: 7 lbs. 7 oz. CONDITION: Extremely fine, near new. *FINE PAIR OF BOSS SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME SHOTGUNS WITH CASE AND SOME ACCESSORIES.

SN 5445/ 5446. (ca 1907) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 30″ Chopper lump bbls are engraved “Boss & Co 73 St. James’s Street, London.” on narrow swamped game ribs. Guns are a true pair with the numbers “1” or “2” inlaid in gold on rear portions of ribs, opening levers, and forend tips. Bbl flats are stamped with orig London proofs for 1-1/8 oz of shot, and 2000 re-proofs for 70 mm (2-3/4). SNs are stamped on bottoms of bbls. Case hardened sidelock actions are stocked to the fences and feature gold band tumbler end cocking indicators and Boss’s incomparable single triggers. Actions and locks are engraved with near full coverage exceptional house style rose and scroll by Jack Sumner. Sides of actions are engraved “Boss’s Patent”, and “BOSS & CO” is in scrolled riband on each lockplate. Single trigger patent info is on trigger plates, and single beaded trigger guards are scroll engraved with SNs in semi-relief on tangs. Well matched European walnut straight grip buttstocks measure 15″ over black leather covered pads. Stocks feature classic drop points, point pattern checkering with mullered borders, as well as vacant gold ovals on toe lines which have about 1/4″ negative camber in racy Boss style. Matching splinter forends with Anson releases are fitted with Boss’s superior ejector system lifting cartridges well away from chambers when acting as plain extractors. Interior is lined in scarlet cloth, and fits these guns perfectly, and may indeed be orig to guns, but no charge card is present. A large paper Boss label with correct address and info label for single trigger guns, are in lid. Case contains four snap caps marked with gauge, one marked “J. Purdey”. CONDITION: Excellent, as refurbished. Bbls retain essentially all of a London quality re-black. Actions and lockplates retain 10 – 20% orig case hardening color where protected, and are mostly a muted pewter gray. Stocks have a few light marks, nicks, and scratches, in their well done hand rubbed oil finish over some old dark dents. Checkering competently re-cut. Forends have some repairs to thin wood at sides toward tips. Bores are excellent. Actions are tight. Gun “1” is a bit off face, with no light visible on gun “2”. Ejectors are strong and in time. Triggers work well. Case leather is a pleasing dark tan, with a number of bumps and rubs, and a 6″ x 6″ area on top blacked out. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is good with bumps, rubs, and soiling from contact with guns. Partitions are good with some blocks re-covered where worn. SN 8021. (ca. 1932) Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. This exceptionally fine gun, made as one of a pair, as denoted by gold inlaid six pointed star on action, barrels, and forend tip, has extra set of barrels (made during late 1960’s), with Boss at Cork Street address (five-pointed star). Both sets of bbls are 27″ long with 2-3/4″ chambers. Original chopper lump bbls are engraved “Boss & Co. Albemarle Street, Piccadilly, London. W.” and “Made in England” on narrow concave game rib. Bbl flats have London nitro proofs stamped 2-5/8. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SN. Newer dovetailed bbls (5-pointed star) are engraved “Boss & Co. 13/ 14. Cork. Street. London. W. 1.” on rib. Bbl flats have London proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers. SN is stamped on bottoms of bbls, and later Boss production no. “9424” is on rear lump. Bottom rib is engraved “Made in England”. Rounded bar sidelock double trigger action has automatic safety (“Safe” inlaid in gold) and bushed strikers. Action and lockplates are engraved in Boss house style with beautifully cut small shaded scroll, outlining 16 rose bouquets, as is typical of the finest work of Jack Sumner, noted Boss engraver. “Boss & Co” is on each lockplate. Matching single beaded trigger guard has SN relief engraved on long tang. Lightly marbled and nicely fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-9/16″ over checkered wood butt, and features 22 LPI point pattern checkering with mullered borders. There is a vacant silver oval on toe line which has typical elegant Boss concave sweep. Matching splinter forend has Anson release, and is fitted with Boss’s patent ejectors. Orig bbls: Bore diameter: left -.733, right -.733. Bore restrictions: left -.005, right -.001. Wall thickness: left -.021, right -.021. Drop at heel: 2-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-5/8″. Weight: 5 lbs. 13.8 oz, LOP 14-9/16″. Later bbls (5 point star: Bore diameter: left -.728, right -.728. Bore restrictions: left -.002, right -.002. Wall thickness: left -.024, right -.032. Weight: 5 lbs. 13.8 oz. Makers leather case is lined in maroon cloth, with Boss’ Dover Street label, “Dover Street” has been crossed out. There is a secondary label with instructions on mounting forend with ejectors. Case contains pair of snap caps, J. Purdey marked square oil bottle, walnut and brass 2-pc cleaning rod with mop and jag, and two keys. There is only room for one set of bbls in case. PROVENANCE: Copy of record of 1941 and 1942 purchase and sale from Abercrombie & Fitch. Robert Gaylord Trust Collection. CONDITION: Excellent, as refurbished. Orig bbls retain essentially all of London quality re-black. Engraving on rib is clear. Later bbls retain nearly all of what appears to be their original blue. Action retains essentially all of a fine St. Ledger re-color. Buttstock appears to be a factory replacement, done at time the new bbls were made, and retains most of a fine hand rubbed oil finish. Forend has new finish to match, checkering lightly worn and somewhat gummed with oil. Action is tight, and bbls are on face with both sets of bbls, with top lever well left of center. Bores are excellent. Ejectors are in time. Case is very good. Leather is slightly discolored and cracked, especially at right side of lid, which is loose and needs stabilizing. Handle is partially detached. Interior cloth is fine with a few marks in areas rubbed through from contact with gun. Partitions are tight. Label is very fine, slightly foxed. Accessories are fine. *SUPERB PRE-WAR BOSS 20 BORE SIDELOCK EJECTOR LIGHT GAME GUN WITH SCARCE SINGLE SELECTIVE TRIGGER AND CASE.

SN 8019. Cal. 20 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. (Made ca 1932) 26″ Chopper lump bbls are engraved “Boss & Co 41, Albemarle Street, Piccadilly, London. W.” and “Made in England” on narrow, swamped game rib. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 7/8 oz and 2-1/2″ chambers and are also stamped 2-3/4 with no re-proof mark. SNs are on bottoms of bbls. Scaled down Boss sidelock action is stocked to the fences and features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and unusual Boss single selective trigger with selector button on left lockplate, gold inlaid “L” and “R”. Action and lockplates are engraved in typical Boss house style of rose and scroll, as normally done by Jack Sumner. Scroll is exceptionally well cut as are bouquets, of which there are 20. “Boss & Co” is on each lockplate. Trigger plate is stamped with patent info for the Boss single trigger. Small bow, single beaded, trigger guard has SN relief engraved at grip. Strikingly flame/ fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-3/4″ over a professionally installed 2″ lengthening piece to checkered wood butt. Lengthening piece matches exceptionally well as to grain structure and figure. Stock features typical drop points and checkering at grip, and a vacant gold oval on toe line. Matching splinter forend has Anson release and is fitted with Boss’s highly regarded ejector system. Bore diameter: left -.617, right -.618. Bore restrictions: left -.002, right -.001. Wall thickness: left -.033, right -.033. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-7/16″. Weight: 5 lbs 12 oz. LOP: 14-3/4″. A & F marked VC case with stitched leather corners has been blackened. Interior is lined in burgundy cloth. Boss Albemarle Street paper label is in lid. Case contains pair of older A & F marked snap caps. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain most of a proper London quality reblack, engraving picked up properly. Action retains a considerable amount of its orig case hardening color, which was never vivid. Lockplates retain about half of their color, strongest on right. Top lever retains most of its blue, silvered on thumbpiece. Trigger guard is essentially all silver at grip, with a considerable amount of blue on bow. Stocks retain most of a properly refreshed finish with sharp edges and checkering. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Trigger functions well. Case leather has been properly refreshed and is sound. *LOVELY “GOLDEN AGE” BOSS OVER-UNDER SIDELOCK EJECTOR, SINGLE TRIGGER GAME SHOTGUN.

SN 7946. (ca 1931) Cal. 12 ga. 2-1/2″ Chambers. 26″ Demi-bloc bbls fitted with matted solid rib with lunate extension are engraved “Boss & Co Albemarle Street, Piccadilly, London. W.” and “Made in England” on top bbl. Right side of top bbl and flat of bottom bbl are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers. Bottom of bottom bbl is stamped with SN. Case hardened low profile Boss OU sidelock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and Boss’s highly regarded single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved in Boss house style rose and scroll incorporating 15 rose bouquets as executed by Jack Sumner. Each side of action is engraved with patent date for OU action (1909). “Boss & Co” is on each lockplate and patent info for single trigger is on trigger plate. Small bow single beaded trigger guard is scroll engraved to match and SN is on tang. Beautifully marbled and figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-7/8″ over checkered wood butt, and features standard drop points and point pattern checkering with line borders at grip. One piece forend fitted with Boss’s patent ejector has Anson release, checkering has mullered borders. Bore diameter: top -.731, bottom – .732. Bore restrictions: top – .007 (IC), bottom – .007 (IC). Wall thickness: top – .030, bottom – .021 (one small area on bottom of bottom bbl about 6″ back from muzzle, but is mostly .025 plus). Drop at heel: 2-3/16″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Cast 5/8″ off. Weight: 6 lbs. 12 oz. LOP: 14-7/8″. CONDITION: Excellent, as partially refurbished. Bbls retain over 95% high quality rust re-blue, silvering on sharp edges, engraving slightly softened. Action and lockplates retain what appears to be 80% orig case hardening color, percentage is difficult to determine because of accumulated darkened varnish. (A good strip and clean may be in order.) Top lever and trigger guard have been re-blued and retain nearly all of that blue. Newly made stock is well shaped, and inlet. Orig forend wood refinished to match. There are some insignificant shrinkage cracks at rear portion of bbl channel. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Top bbl is somewhat off face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Trigger works. England.” on left side of top bbl, with London nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers on right side and bbl flat. Small sized, case hardened, low profile, OU sidelock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and dbl triggers. Action and lockplates are engraved with typical Woodward house rose and scroll. “J. Woodward & Sons” is in parchment scroll flanked device on each lockplate, and bottom of rounded action bar is engraved “Woodward’s” “Patent” “Under & Over”. Rose and scroll engraved trigger guard has SN on tang. Nicely streaked and lightly fiddle figured lightweight European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-7/8″ over checkered wood butt, and features typical drop points in front of semi-diamond hand with point pattern checkering. A vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching slim ejector forend has Anson release. Bore diameter: top -.613, bottom – .613. Bore restrictions: top – .009 (lt mod), bottom – .006 (IC). Wall thickness: top – .022, bottom – .026. Drop at heel: 2-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-5/16″. Neutral cast. Weight: 6 lbs. 0 oz. LOP: 14-7/8″. What is possibly orig, makers leather case is lined in scarlet cloth, and has paper Woodward label along with instruction labels for under-over gun, in lid. Case contains Vulcanite covered 2-pc cleaning rod, pair of horn bodied Woodward marked snap caps, small nickel striker bottle with spare strikers, Woodward marked 20 bore chamber brush with horn handle, along with matching turnscrew, horn striker block, Woodward marked glass oil bottle, two Japanned Woodward marked tins (one for gun oil), black morocco wallet with pull through cleaning kit, and brown wallet with brush and mop. Small covered compartment holds broken case extractor and two keys. PROVENANCE: G & H letter confirming specs indicating that this gun was orig made with single trigger in 1936, and sold to Mr. Dean Witter, co-founder of Dean Witter and Co. CONDITION: Excellent, as partially refurbished. Bbls retain nearly all of a fine quality re-blue, with a few light subsequent marks. Action retains 30 – 40% orig case hardening color. Lockplates retain nearly all of their fine orig color. Top lever and trigger guard retain most of their orig bright blue, trigger guard silvering at tang. Newly made correctly shaped buttstock retains essentially all of its hand rubbed oil finish. Orig forend wood finished to match, checkering correctly freshened. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case leather is still relatively light in color with scuffs on edges and corners, as well as a few overall. Orig straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is fine with light soiling and compressions from contact with gun and accessories. Labels are fine with light soiling, some foxing. SN 27717. (ca 1970) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. Two sets of 30″ demi-block bbls are fitted with matted ventilated ribs. Bbls are differentiated by pattern percentages engraved on bbl flats. Both bbl sets have Purdey name and Audley House address on left sides of top bbls. London nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ and 3-1/4 tons are on bottom flats. One bbl is marked for chokes of “BOTTOM 75% TOP 80%”. The other is engraved BOTTOM 65% TOP 75%”. Both bbl sets are stamped with bbl makers initials “E.C” (Ted Comben). Round bodied, case hardened, OU sidelock action features non-automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and non-selective single trigger. Action and locks are engraved with well cut Purdey House style rose and scroll with “James Purdey & Sons” on each lockplate, as well as on bottom of action at the top of forend iron mortise with “London” below. Scroll engraved small bow trigger guard has SN on tang which extends to horn grip cap. Very fine flame figured and well marbled English walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/4″ over checkered wood butt, and features drop points and grip checkering. This fine replacement stock was masterfully executed by Greg Wolfe with “the finest English walnut blank he has ever used”. A silver oval on toe line is engraved with script initials “H L M”. Matching forend with Anson release is stamped with actioner’s initials, “P. N” (Peter Nelson). Open choked bbls: Bore diameter: top -.735, bottom – .738. Bore restrictions: top – .013 (mod), bottom – .006 (IC). Wall thickness: top – .030, bottom – .029. Drop at heel: 1-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 8 lbs. 0 oz. LOP: 14-1/4″. Heavy choked bbls: Bore diameter: top -.734, bottom – .734. Bore restrictions: top – .017 (mod), bottom – .013 (Lt mod). Wall thickness: top – .030, bottom – .030. Orig makers leather VC case with stitched leather corners and central brass oval engraved “H L M” has canvas outer cover. Interior has space for extra bbls and is lined in burgundy cloth with gold embossed black leather Purdey label in lid, along with charge card for this particular gun with information for both sets of bbls. Accessories include pair of snap caps, pull through cleaning kit, ebony striker block, and spare screws for locks. Also included is what appears to be orig buttstock with LOP of approx 14″ over leather covered pad. CONDITION: Excellent. Both bbl sets retain approx 90% of their orig blue. Action retains about 50% orig case hardening color, considerably silvered from hand wear on bottom. Lockplates retain 90% of their color. Buttstock retains nearly all of what appears to be its orig finish, with some very light marks, with a fairly deep scratch along toe line. Checkering is lightly worn. What is most likely orig forend retains nearly all of a refinish matching butt. 65/ 75 % bbl set is very slightly loose and a tad off face. 75/80 % set is tight, but also slightly off face with light visible at top bbl. Bores are excellent. Ejectors are strong and in time. Trigger works. Case leather is excellent, but with a few marks and scuffs, especially on corners. Outer cover is excellent, rubbed. Interior cloth has some compressions, rubs, and soiling, with one area rubbed through from contact with action. Labels are fine. Charge card is somewhat soiled. SN 25995. (ca 1947) Cal. 20 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 26″ Chopper lump bbls are engraved with Purdey’s famous name and Audley House address on narrow swamped game rib. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SNs, “CHOKE”, and bbl makers initials “J.A” (J Aldous). Tube numbers “64545” and “64546” are on loop. Case hardened, small sized Beesley patent self-opening sidelock action features automatic safety, bushed strikers, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and dbl triggers. Action is engraved with very well cut Purdey House style rose bouquets and small scroll. “J. Purdey & Sons” is on each lockplate, as well as bottom of action over “London” and “ENGLAND”. Scroll engraved trigger guard has SN on tang. Lightly fiddle figured European walnut straight grip stock measures 14-1/2″ over checkered wood butt, and features standard drop points, grip checkering, and a silver oval on toe line engraved with initials “R N C”. Matching splinter ejector forend with Anson release has actioner’s initial “H” (long time Purdey actioner Fred Hughes) on iron. Bore diameter: left -.616, right – .615. Bore restrictions: left – .011 (mod), right – .005 (IC). Wall thickness: left – .032, right – .032. Drop at heel: 1-7/8″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Weight: 5 lbs. 12 oz. LOP: 14-1/2″. Leather Abercrombie & Fitch motor case marked “THE PURDEY LIGHTWEIGHT” under key lock is embossed “J. H. W.” on top. Case interior is of purple cloth, with no label, and contains some cleaning equipment and the key. Also included is the book: JOCK, THE LIFE AND TIMES OF JOHN HAY WHITNEY by E. J. Kahn, Jr. Doubleday, 1981. PROVENANCE: Factory records indicate this gun was made for John Hay Whitney. He was born into a privileged family. With the death of his father in 1927, “Jock inherited a considerable sum”, the estate was worth 179 million dollars. He became well known throughout the elite of American society, and appeared on the cover of Time, played polo, raised horses, and wed well. He was also a Hollywood producer who co-produced “Gone With The Wind” and helped to develop “Technicolor”, trustee of Museum of Modern Art, prisoner of War during WWII, companion of Dwight Eisenhower, and later ambassador to the Court of St. James. Also included is a book about John Hay Whitney. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain over 95% of what appears to be their orig blue, with a few very light marks. Action retains 70 – 80% orig case hardening color, thinned and silvered on fences and beads. Lockplates retain nearly all of their color. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their orig rubbed oil finish with numerous light marks and scratches, possibly with some oil rubbed in, checkering lightly worn and a bit dirty. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case leather is still light in color with a few minor marks and scuffs. Straps and handle are good. Two sets of 28″ chopper lump bbls, one with heavy chokes, the other more open choked, are only distinguishable by looking at thickness of muzzles or tube numbers. Both sets have narrow, slightly raised, matted ribs, and are engraved “J. Purdey & Sons” “Audley House, South Audley Street, London, England” on tops. Bbl flats were stamped with 1986 London proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SNs and bbl makers initials “DS”. Tube numbers “76267” and “76268” are on open choked bbls, and “76269” and “76270” are on heavy choked bbls. Small frame case hardened Beesley patent self-opening sidelock action features non-automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and sgl non-selective trigger. Action is engraved with very well cut modernized version of Purdey’s classic rose and scroll, differing from the usual Lucas pattern in having attenuated scrolls surrounding the bouquets. “J. Purdey & Sons” is in scrolled banner at the front portion of each lockplate, and bottom of action has circular vignette of a flying quail surrounded by “J. PURDEY” and “London, England”. Small bow trigger guard has SN on tang. Finely marbled, dark European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15-1/8″ over black leather covered pad, and features standard drop points and point pattern checkering at grip, and individual gold letters “W H P Jr” inlet on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend with Anson release has actioner’s initials “GH” on iron. Open Choked BBLS: Bore diameter: left -.615, right – .614. Case is configured for action and both bbl sets, and contains 2-pc rosewood handled aluminum and brass cleaning rod, J. Purdey marked mop, brush, and jag, rosewood handled turnscrews and striker key, as well as a pair of snap caps, all Purdey marked, along with a square oil bottle engraved “Purdey” with crossed guns, and a small striker bottle with spare strikers. Also included is a high quality leather full length zippered carrying case with owners initials on exterior and Purdey label on interior. PROVENANCE: Orig order sheet with specification chart, specifying “quail” on bottom, and all other specs, with various correspondence signed by Richard Beaumont, with cash slip noting deposit and a final invoice. Also included are some Purdey postcards and catalog with blue cover. CONDITION: Excellent, very near to new with evidence of very little firing. Bbls have essentially all of their blue. There is just a hint of silvering on beads of action, a bit of silvering on thumbpiece, and a few very light handling marks in wood. There are some light scuffs and chipping on leather of pad, with lighter leather showing through at heel and toe. Bores are excellent. Mechanically crisp. Case is excellent. Accessories are essentially new. A new Purdey in this configuration with extra bbls has a current retail of approx $150,000.00. Both sets of bbls retain over 90% of their orig blue, with a number of marks and a few scratches, most from removal of forend. Action retains 30 – 40% orig case hardening color, silvered on beads, as well as fences where it is quite pleasing and gives depth to excellent carving. Lockplates retain 85 – 90% of their color. Top lever and trigger guard retain most of their orig blue, silvered from normal handling. Stocks retain most of their orig hand rubbed finish, with a number of light marks and a few deeper scratches. Checkering slightly worn and a bit dirty. Pad considerably rubbed. Bores are excellent. Action is tight and on face with both bbl sets. Ejectors are in time. Trigger works. Case leather is still light in color, edges have a number of rubs and scuffs. Straps and handle are good. Bbl flat is stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers. Bottom of bbl is stamped with SN and bbl makers initials “A.H” (Alf Harvey). Tube number “67909” is on loop. Case hardened action has finely sculpted fence, and dummy right hand sideplate. It is not equipped with a safety, but does feature bushed striker, and raised rib tumbler end cocking indicator. Action and lockplates are engraved with exceptionally well cut and shaded small attenuated acanthus scroll. This truly fine work is counterpoint to more deeply carved fence with large relief acanthus, as well as exceptional gold inlaid game scenes on each lockplate. Right plate depicts a semi-relief gold pair of feeding cock pheasant in nicely detailed meadowland. Left plate has a pair of semi-relief gold mallards flaring over a marsh. Ken Hunt’s signature is at bottom of duck scene. Bottom of action is engraved “J. Purdey & Sons” “London” “England”. Blued trigger guard with matching fine acanthus scroll has SN on tang, which extends to composition grip cap. Nicely streaked and lightly figured dense European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/8″ over black Decelerator pad. Classic drop points and point pattern checkering are at grip, and a silver oval engraved with initials “H L M” is on toe line. Matching beavertail ejector forend has Anson release. Coin finished sidelock actions feature non-automatic safeties, engraved arrowhead tumbler end cocking indicators, and dbl triggers (fronts articulated). Gun is number “2” of a pair. Factory records indicate that it was to be paired with gun “25971”, and “2” is gold inlaid on rear portion of rib, top lever, and forend tip. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SNs. Case hardened scaled down Holland “Royal” sidelock action is stocked to the fences, and features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and dbl triggers. Action and locks are engraved with scroll borders. Factory records indicate “border finish”. “Holland & Holland” is on each lockplate, and bottom of action is engraved “Royal” “Hammerless” “Ejector”. Steel trigger guard has SN on short tang. Nicely stump figured and lightly marbled European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-3/8″ over ribbed horn buttplate, and features diamond hand with flat top point pattern checkering, drop points, and a gold oval on toe line engraved with a lion rampant holding a wreath. Rosson gold embossed black label in lid, and contains a pair of Rosson marked 16 ga. snap caps. PROVENANCE: Copy of factory ledger pages with specs, and shooting reports indicating that the customer was “Frere”. CONDITION: Fine as partially refinished. Bbls retain over 90% of a fine quality re-black, engraving softened. Action retains 20 – 30% orig case hardening color, balance a very pleasing silver gray. Lockplates retain most of their orig color, left plate quite strong. Stocks retain remnants of what appears to be their orig finish, checkering worn, especially at height of diamond of grip. There is a 1/2″ x 1-1/4″ dutchman set into right side of buttstock, quite possibly done by factory during orig stocking, to repair a flaw in the blank. Bores are very fine to excellent, with a few very minor scattered pits, and evidence of old dent removal about 12″ back from muzzle on right bbl. Action is slightly loose with forend removed and bbls are somewhat off face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case is good, leather has considerable scuffing and tape marks, as well as spatters of paint. Interior cloth is good with some soiling and compressions. The King” and “OVUNDO” on narrow, slightly swamped game rib. Bottoms of ejector bosses are stamped with orig Birmingham nitro proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers and Birmingham re-proofs for 2-3/4″. Side ribs are engraved with patent numbers where covered by forend. Case hardened OU action with ornamental sideplates are fitted with Westley Richards unique hand detachable locks which are engine turned and gold inlaid for left and right. Locks are stamped with patent use number “3353” and are housed under hinged floorplate. This gun also features automatic safety and single selective trigger. Sideplates are equipped with inspection ports to view workings of single trigger mechanism. Action and lockplates are engraved with near full coverage well cut large open shaded acanthus scroll. “Westley Richards” is in geometric device at the front of each sideplate. Top of action forward of top lever, is engraved “WESTLEY RICHARDS” “PATENT ONE TRIGGER”. Front portion of floorplate is engraved “Westley Richards” “Patent” “OVUNDO”. Blued and scroll engraved small bow trigger guard has SN on short tang. Well streaked and nicely fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-5/8″ over Silver type pad, and features classic drop points, point pattern grip checkering, and a large vacant gold oval on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend with horn tip has Deeley release. Bore diameter: top -.625, bottom – .628. Bore restrictions: top – .010 (lt mod), bottom – .033 (full). Case contains 2-pc brass and ebony cleaning rod, with mop, jag and brush in leather wallet, 2 cans (one containing Rangoon oil and the other “NevaRust”), pair of snap caps marked for gauge, a Westley Richards marked round oil bottle, and a key. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain nearly all of a fine quality rust re-blue. Action and sideplates retain over 90% of what appears to be orig case hardening color. Top lever, floorplate, and trigger guard retain nearly all of a re-blue which has lightened somewhat on tang of trigger guard. Stocks retain nearly all of what appears to be their orig rubbed oil finish with some oil added to rear portion of butt with installation of relatively new pad. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Trigger works. Case leather is still light in color, relatively smooth and clean from protection of outer cover, which is considerably worn. Top has two reddish leather inserts where letters have been removed. Interior cloth is very fine with some compressions and area at bbl breech ends worn almost through from contact with bbls. Guns are a true pair with nos “1” and “2” gold inlaid on bbls, trigger guard tangs, and forend tips. Rear portions of ribs are also engraved “Patent Ejector”. Tops of bbls are engraved “Sir Joseph Whitworth’s” “Fluid Pressed Steel”. Bbl flats are stamped with London provisional proofs and Birmingham nitro re-proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers. SNs are on bottoms of bbls. Coin finished sidelock actions are stocked to the fences and feature bushed strikers and dbl triggers.
