VERY GOOD WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 NORTHWEST MOUNTED POLICE SADDLE RING CARBINE WITH FACTORY LETTER.
SN 44165. Cal. .45-75. 22″ rnd bbl with traditional carbine rear sight and 2pc walnut stocks with full length carbine forearm. Very strong and prominent “NWMP” cartouche in right side of butt as well as a Canadian property number “APP 163” to rear of lower tang. This gun is documented as having been mfg in 1885 and was received in a group of 150 said carbines by the Northwest Mounted Police in March 1885. This carbine is also documented to have had a long history with both the Canadian Mounted Police and Provincial Polices. This specific gun was among those returned from the Deputy Minister of Militia to the Northwest Mounted Police and was used by the White Horse Division of the Yukon Territory during the Gold Rush period as well as later being sold to the Alberta Provincial Police in 1919 to correlate with the stock marking found behind the tang. Most of these guns saw very heavy usage and the few that survived were in very poor condition. CONDITION: Good overall with most metal finishes having turned patina or to have been worn silver. Stocks are somewhat worn as is to be expected with a small amount of material loss on left forward section of forearm and several small areas of material loss at upper and lower receiver tangs. All markings are legible and evident. Cartouches and property markings are very strong and far better than most. Bore, although moderately dark has strong and well defined rifling. Mechanics are functioning and crisp. A fine example of a well documented carbine from the Northwest Territories. 53157-1 TDW (4,500-6,500) – Lot 1439

DESIRABLE WINCHESTER 1886 TAKEDOWN RIFLE.
SN 88092. Cal. .40-65. 26″ full oct bbl with blade front and semi-buckhorn rear sight. Blue frame with 2pc walnut stocks with full mag and crescent butt. Case color hammer and lever and nitre blue loading gate. Mfg in 1885 by SN. The .40-65 was a very desired cartridge of its day and noted for its accuracy and velocity. Equally desirable is the fact that a blue finished receiver was typically a special order feature during this time frame. This was probably of the most practical of all Winchester 1886 rifles from medium to moderately large game and are typically found in well-used condition. CONDITION: Fine overall with an abundance of factory blue finish remaining on bbl and mag. The blue finished receiver is equally as fine with typical finish loss at forward receiver ring and balance point of bottom receiver. The attractive 2pc walnut stocks remain in very fine condition with most all factory varnish remaining. Numerous small bruises and abrasions are evident, however just lend to the history of this rifle. The case colors on lever and crescent butt are evident but have somewhat silvered with age and use, while the hammer retains most all of its vivid case colors. This is a fine overall condition gun with a strong bore that shows very slight darkness in the grooves of the rifling. The action is tight and all mechanics function properly. 53157-2 TDW (4,000-6,000) – Lot 1440
