*EXCEPTIONAL BOSS DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 ga. Exceptionally fine English shotgun with 26” bbls, choked mod/imp cyl, 7/8 ounce proof, 2-1/2” chambers, swamped concave rib marked on the top with the company name and address of 41 Albemarle St and “Made in England”. It has sidelock action with ejectors and single selective trigger, self opening action with full sidelocks having the selector switch on the left lockplate. It has a splinter forearm with highly figured straight stock, tear drop sidepanels, 13-3/4” over a leather faced red rubber recoil pad. The drop at the heel is 2-1/4” and 1-3/8” at the comb with a slight cast on and weights 5lbs 6oz. The receiver and lockplates are beautifully engraved with extremely fine English rose and scroll patterns covering about 90% of the surface. The foreend iron and trigger guard are matching engraved. The stock has a oval gold initial plate engraved “Anne McMillan” and large initials “C.W.”. The trigger guard is configured for a right hand shooter. The word safe is inlaid in gold on the top tang and the “L” and “R” under the selector are also inlaid in gold. Accompanied by it’s original tan leather, red velvet lined trunk case containing an original pair of Boss snap caps, a Boss marked square nickeled oil bottle, 2 piece ebony & brass wiping rod, and a small leather pouch containing a pull through. The covered compartment contains more cleaning implements for the wiping rod and a small leather pouch containing two spare firing pins in their original wax paper. Another compartment contains a bone handled bristle brush marked “Made in England” along with the original key. The inside of the lid has the original Boss & Co label with the overstamped address of 41 Albemarle St with the 13 Dover St address marked out. The top of the case is marked “Anne McMillan/gift from /Cooper Wood/Gross Pointe Farms, Michigan”. SN 8431. CONDITION: Bbls retain about 90% strong original blue with some minor muzzle and breech end wear. The receiver and lockplates retain most all of their strong original case colors. Wood is sound, possibly with an old restored finish and a few small grain checks on the right side of the butt stock. The trigger guard retains about 95% of its original bright blue, brilliant shiny bores. The case is fine retaining about 80% of its original finish. 4-50019 JR1 (12,500-17,500)
