“U.S.I.D.” REMINGTON-KEENE BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. Reasonably scarce rifle, one of a few sold to the US Dept. of the Interior for the Indian Police use. This one is marked with the “USID” marking and #276 on the left side of the receiver. It also has proof marks and an arrow on the front receiver ring as well as Henry Nettleton inspector marks on bbl and receiver. It has a full tubular magazine with the front sight mounted on bbl band and was equipped with a musket style ladder sight, which is missing the blade. It is mounted in a 1-pc half stock with smooth steel buttplate and sling loops. NSN. CONDITION: Traces of blue remain in the sheltered areas in bbl with the balance of the iron a plum brown patina. The stock is broken through the wrist, is moderately battered, with a dark oil stain. Strong bore with good rifling, moderately pitted. 4-49481 JR226 (2,000-3,000)
