WINCHESTER FIRST MODEL HOTCHKISS BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. Usual first model rifle with 28-1/2” round bbl, bayonet lug front sight, ski jump rear sight, 1-pc wood stock with two bbl bands and a saddle ring in the left side. It has stacking and sling swivels with a slotted button head-wiping rod. The chamber area of bbl has usual proofs with a small anchor. The left side of the stock has a sharp oval cartouche dated 1878. SN 2433. CONDITION: About fine, bbl, receiver, and all metal parts have been refinished. Bbl bands, bolt, and buttplate are bright polished niter blue. The stock is exceptional, retaining virtually all its original factory oiled finish with a few minor handling and storage marks.
