HOLLAND AND HOLLAND SINGLE-SHOT ROOK RIFLE. Cal. 250 Rook. Fine, dainty top break single shot rifle with 25-7/8” tapered oct bbl with ejector, bead front sight and single standing blade rear sight. The top flat from the breech end is serrated about 6” and about 4” before the front sight is also serrated. It has nicely figured wood with horn-tipped splinter forearm and pistol-grip stock with small cheek piece, 14-5/8” over a serrated butt. The forearm and pistol grip have extensive checkering, about 20 lines per inch. The receiver, trigger guard and foreend iron are beautifully engraved in fine arabesque patterns. Both sides of the receiver have an engraved ribbon marked “Holland & Holland”. The top side-flats of bbl are marked with the company name and address on one side and “Winners Of All The Field Rifle Trials. 250 Semi Smooth Bore” on the other. The top tang, with a finely checkered safety, has “SAFE” inlaid in gold. SN 18979. CONDIITON: Extremely fine. Bbl, trigger guard, lower tang and wood retain virtually all of a fine professionally restored finish. The receiver case colors have faded to silver with the top tang retaining brilliant colors under the opening lever. Wood is sound with several small dings in the forearm and minor handling and use marks on the stock. Strong bright bore with scattered light pitting. 4-49085 (3,000-5,000)
