A NICE SCANDINAVIAN PAINT-DECORATED DOME-TOP STORAGE CHEST, POSSIBLY NORWAY. Circa 1859. The front panel painted in mustard color with the name of the owner, “Anders Gundersen” and location “Moen Aar”(?), dated 1859. The hinged domed lid opening to an interior fitted with till, the inside of the lid decorated with a stylistic floral spray in orange and black on cream ground, fitted to the dovetailed case, the sides with iron carrying handles, the edges iron bound. The whole painted with brick red faux-graining, decorated with green stripes simulating strapping. SIZE: 21″ h. x 32″ w. x 18” d. PROVENANCE: From a southern Connecticut home. CONDITION: The trunk with original paint-decorated surfaces, somewhat faded and worn, shrinkage crack along center of lid. Retains all original hardware and lock. A nice example not commonly seen in this country. 9-91399 (400-700)
