UNSIGNED (American/British School, Mid 19th Century) ALLEGORICAL SCENE. Oil on canvas interior scene showing “Kora, the Virgin of Corinth, also known as Callirhoe, who is seeing her beloved’s profile cast upon the wall the firelight, seized a spent coal and drew an outline around him” as stated on back. Scene shows a warrior lying on a daybed being tended to by a young maiden. A lute and armor are seen beside. Housed in what is probably its original antique birdseye frame. SIZE: 17” x 21”. PROVENANCE: Out of a private Boston, MA area home, originally found in CT. CONDITION: Craquelure, good. 9-73330 (1,000-2,000)
