NATIVE AMERICAN BIRCH CHIP-CARVED CANOE, PROBABLY GREAT NORTHWOODS REGION. Late 19th century. Of typical form, the canoe carved overall with stylized figures, starburst shields within cross-hatched borders, now mounted on a carved and painted base simulating a flowing river. SIZE: 8-1/2″ h. x 29″ l. x 6-3/4″ w. PROVENANCE: Found in a northern New Hampshire hunting lodge. CONDITION: In very fine original condition, with good patina, the base old if not original. 9-91368 (800-1,200)
