WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). Standard carbine with 20” round bbl, full magazine, uncheckered wood with straight stock and smooth carbine buttplate with trap. There is a staple and ring in the left side of receiver. Bbl has square post front sight with 1873 dated carbine ladder rear sight. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this firearm as originally shipped on 12/15/1883 as a rifle and changed to carbine on 4/3/1884. SN 143417. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl and magazine tube retain about 95% original finish turning plum on bbl with several small spots of rust pitting. Receiver retains about 90% original finish, strong and bright on the right side with light surface etching and the left side covered with extremely fine pitting. Wood is sound and retains most of its original finish with most of its original oil finish. Forearm has a few small bruises and scratches with a series of small bruises on the buttstock. Brilliant shiny bore. A very fine early 3rd Model carbine. 4-48800 JR178 (6,000-10,000)
