BUFFALO BILL SIGNED LETTER AND ENVELOPE. 8-1/2 x 11” sheet of letter head from “Buffalo Bills Wild West combined with Pawnee Bill’s Far East” with return address of Madison Square Garden, New York, NY dated “May 3, 1910” and addressed to “Mr. Dan’l K. Hall, 325 Central Park West, City”. The letter is quoted as follows “In reply to your favor of April 29th with say that the Winchester repeating model of 1873 is a very fine gun. In fact the Winchester people make none but fine guns. At the present day and for years past I have used nothing but Winchester rifles in big game shooting and also in my exhibitions. But during buffalo killing days I used the Springfield Breech loader and I think the Springfield Breech loader and the old Sharp rifle killed more buffalo than any other two guns. The revolver was very little used by professional buffalo killers. It was only the tenderfeet who used the revolver. Yours very truly,” and signed in ink W.F. Cody in his very distinctive style. It is accompanied by its original envelope with identical letterhead postmark dated “1910” and with a cancelled 2 cent stamp. Attached to the back of the letter are two newspaper columns with hand-written notes dated “July 11, 1917”, the day after Buffalo Bill died. CONDITION: The paper is yellowed with a water stain in the lower left corner and a small piece missing from the left edge, otherwise, the blue ink of the typewriter and Cody’s signature are sharp and distinct. A fine addition to accompany a ’73 rifle, purchased by Mr. Hall, apparently on Cody’s advice being sold elsewhere in this auction. 4-49360 JR382 (1,000-2,000)
