UNSIGNED (American, 19/20th Century) “GREAT HILL, KENNEBUNK, MAINE”. Oil on board scene shows houses with American flags flying on tall flagpole. Atop bluff with beach in foreground. Housed in a walnut gold lined frame. PROVENANCE: Comes with letter from the Brick Store Museum indicating that Great Hill is a promontory just north of the mouth of the Mousam River. It could be the topographical feature, which Kennebunk derived its name as Kennebunk means “Great cut bank”. Also a copy of a photograph with what appears to be the area. SIZE: 8-1/2” x 12”.
