GEORGE MEARS (British, 1865-1910) PADDLE PACKET “VICTORIA”. Oil on canvas shows the black hull, two stack Victoria steaming right to left with forty-six people aboard. British Ensign flag off stern, banner off stern mast. Two other flags fly. Greenish ocean, light blue and white cloudy sky. Sailing ship is seen off port bow and another off stern. Signed lower right “G. Mears 1886”. Housed in a gilt carved wood frame. PROVENANCE: A CT estate. SIZE: 20” x 36”. CONDITION: Very good. 9-94619 (2,000-3,000)
