WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 66RF Henry. Standard carbine with 20” bbl, full magazine, integral front band and sight, early two position flip rear sight, early style magazine tube with screwed in plug and a staple and ring on the left side of the receiver. Bbl has sharp legible markings. It has uncheckered wood with straight stock and crescent brass buttplate with trap. The right side of the forearm is carved with an “H” slash brand possibly indicating western frontier use. A little research may be able to tie this rifle to a specific ranch. SN 44491. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl retains a dark brown patina between the receiver and lower band with the forward part of bbl and magazine tube being a light gray brown patina with scattered fine pinpoints of pitting. The lever retains 40-50% case colors and the hammer a dark patina with heavy pitting. The receiver is fine with a fine frosted finish on both sides and some peen marks on back of both sight plates. Wood is sound with the stock retaining most of an old refinish with light scratches down both sides. The forearm is dark and oil stained, slightly battered.
