WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 LEVER ACTION CARBINE. Cal .44RF Henry. Rare special order early carbine with 20” round bbl, full magazine with early screwed in plug, integral front band and sight, two position flip rear sight and very nicely figured wood with straight stock and crescent brass buttplate with trap. The receiver, forearm, bbl bands, lever, hammer and buttplate have original nickel plating. The receiver has a staple and saddle ring on the left side. Accompanied by an undated letter from George Madis authenticating this rifle. SN 49521. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl and magazine tube retain about 90% strong bright original blue with scattered surface spotting and some thin areas over the top of bbl turning plum, one spot of deep pitting just over the chamber area. The receiver retains 93-95% of its strong original nickel plating, the loading gate retains about 90% bright nitre blue, bbl bands retain lesser amounts of nickel with the balance a gray patina. The lever and hammer retain about 80% original nickel and the buttplate about 95%. The buttstock has a crack and a replaced chip at the toe and the forearm has a couple of large bruises, a deep gouge and some lesser bruises and scrapes. Overall the wood retains about 95% original varnish. The bore is bright and shiny with light to moderate pitting, mechanics are fine. 4-49454 JR519 (15,000-20,000)
