*SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1898 KRAG RIFLE. Cal. 30-40. Spectacular original rifle with 30” round bbl, 1-pc walnut stock and upper handguard. The stock has a crisp 1902 cartouche and stockproofs below the trigger guard. It has a smooth steel buttplate containing a 3-piece jointed cleaning rod and Krag tool wedged in the middle. It is accompanied by an original brown leather sling marked Rock Island Arsenal dated 1903. SN 401020. CONDITION: Absolutely outstanding, as new, retaining virtually all of its original arsenal finish to both metal and wood with a small scuff on the rear receiver bridge and very minor edge wear. Appears unfired and un-issued. The sling is dry with lightly crackled surface and some scuff marks but is still strong and supple. The buttplate retains about 75% original blue. Brilliant shiny bore.
