A RARE NEW ENGLAND MAPLE AND BIRCH BANISTER-BACK SIDE CHAIR, PROBABLY NEW HAMPSHIRE. Circa 1780. The rayed fan cresting flanked by turned stiles with suppressed ball knopped finials, centering four split-banister slats above the trapezoidal splint seat, the turned legs joined by a double box stretcher with reel and baluster-turned frontal stretchers. SIZE: 42-1/2″ h. of back x 16-3/4″ h. of seat at front x 14-1/2″ h. of seat at back. CONDITION: Retains old crackled black paint over an earlier wash, the seat early if not original, the rear legs ended out approximately one inch. 9-90838 (1,000-2,000)
