EARLY MEDICAL BOOK OF SKIN DISEASES BY G. H. FOX: SYPHILIS. This 19th Century photographic illustrated medical book with 48 plates from life and colored by hand by George Henry Fox A.M.M.D., New York, E. D. Treat & Co. 757 Broadway 1881. This fairly medical text replete with grotesque photos of advance stages of Syphilis in both male and female, showing various anatomical parts and how they are afflicted. If ever there were a device during the 19th Century to discourage and discriminate sexual practices, certainly this text would have been an effective one. The various hand colored images of advanced affects of Syphilis are extraordinarily grotesque. Leather bound with marble-type boards. SIZE: 12” x 9-1/2”. CONDITION: Generally very good. Some toning to the paper and small amount of scattered foxing, light staining to the edge of the pages on the last 10-15 pages. Binding is sound. 9-92211 (200-300)
