UNSIGNED (American, Early 19th Century) PAIR OF ANCESTRAL PORTRAITS. Pastel on fine canvas half portraits, members of the Kibbe family. Woman faces right wearing black dress and holding a brown leather book. Curly hair with white lace bonnet. Man has black coat and white shirt. Both have light grayish background. Man has old label “Valorus Kibbe Father of Horatio Kibbe”. Research indicates that Horatio and Mrs. Valorus Kibbe lived in Ellington, CT. She was the daughter of Allerton Cushman who was a direct descendent of Thomas Cushman and Mary Allerton of Mayflower and Pilgrim fame. Housed in identical antique black molded wood frames. SIZE: 20” x 14”. CONDITION: Some loss to background and pastel colors. 9-94164 (2,000-4,000)
