FRANCIS AUGUSTUS SILVA (American, 1835-1886) SAILING OFF LONG SANDY BEACH. Fine watercolor scene shows a sailboat sailing along a sandy beach with crashing waves. There are several people strolling on beach with buildings having flags atop. The coastline curves around and has large buildings at edge. Seagulls fly over crashing waves. Signed lower left “F. A. Silva 75”. Housed in a reproduction narrow gesso decorated gilt frame. SIGHT SIZE: 12-1/4” x 20”. CONDITION: There are several marks in the sky including some light scratches. Some toning but generally good. The matte has been fastened to its original cardboard backing and we have not inspected the watercolor outside of the matte. 9-27379 (8,000-12,000)
