M.L. CASS (American, 19th Century) WINTER ESCAPADES. Large oil on canvas winter scene shows a panoramic landscape with snow covered hills, village with church and houses and frozen water with figures. Foreground shows a logging sled pulled by two brown horses and having four people atop. Behind is pulled a small sled carrying two people. Three boys are seen off to the side throwing snowballs at the oncoming group. A farmhouse with hay barns and fenced area is seen on right side. All under a blue and cloud sky. Signed lower right “ML Cass”. Housed in a gesso decorated antique frame. SIZE: 26″ x 36″. CONDITION: Relined, stretched on new stretcher. Crack in original canvas in sky, some spot inpainting, craquelure, otherwise very good. 9-74362 (2,000-3,000)
