UNSIGNED (American, First third of the 19th Century) FOLGER FAMILY PORTRAIT. Watercolor on paper folk art portrait shows a seven member family seated in a landscape. The father is seated in a writing arm Windsor pointing to a drawing of a house. The mother is seated in a side chair while the five daughters surround them. One holds a stringed instrument beside her. Presumably the landscape which has a clearing behind them is where they will build their house. On the back of the paper is written “Painted 1818” and “Family name”. Presently housed in a hinged tan matte which indicates that on the back of the paper of the original frame it stated Folger Family, Maine 1825. SIZE: 10-1/2″ x 13″.
