BANNERETTE CHURCH WEATHERVANE FROM THE UNIVERSALIST UNITARIAN CHURCH OF WATERVILLE, MAINE. The weathervane is branded “S. H. & W. C. Hunneman”. Weathervane in the shape of an arrow having a cast zinc/lead front part which includes an arrow flanked by two C-scrolls attached to a cast zinc rectangular area set for rod insert. The back section having two open S-scrolls leading to an eleven-rayed star with four round cutouts. Back section appearing to be in a flat sheet metal. Central rod receiving area having a hand forged top with open prongs. The makers brand on the central pole receiving area. SIZE: 61″ l x 21-1/2″ h (without wrought iron rod); 40-1/2″ h (with attached upper part of rod). PROVENANCE: Recently removed from the cupola adorning the original steeple of the Universalist Unitatian Church of Waterville, Maine. CONDITION: Being sold as found. Weathervane has a bend in one cast scroll, a break 1″ from the central vertical support, several bends and loss of green patina throughout. Remnants of the original gilt can be seen. The weathervane has a green overpaint. 9-92243 (2,000-4,000)
