CHARLES SHANG WHEELER (American, 1872-1949) PREENING DUCK AND DUCK HUNTING. Pen and ink drawing in horizontal oval form showing a duck standing at the edge of a marsh with marsh grass, its head turned backwards and bill nested in back feathers. The rectangular matte with oval window has ink drawing of two men hunting hitting one of three ducks in flight. In the distance is a lighthouse which we believe is the along the CT coast. Matte is signed “Shang” in a small picture of a hand holding five cards. Housed in a stained walnut frame. On back of frame there is a penned provenance indicating that they were given to Jacob Huber as payment for a loan and descended in the family to Barbara B. Johnson. SIGHT SIZE OF OVAL: 7” x 10-3/4”. SIGHT SIZE OF MATTE: 14-1/4” x 18-1/2”. CONDITION: Overall brown toning to matte and inner edge of drawing. Small brown stain to right corner, otherwise very good. 9-93881 (2,500-3,000)
