H. IVES (American, 19th/20th Century) SHIP PORTRAIT OF THE GRAND TURK. Oil on canvas scene shows a two-mast gun boat in full sail sailing left to right with three other boats in foreground. There are six men on deck and flies a large American flag off stern. Another boat is moored next to low land with houses. A lighthouse is seen off point of land. The bottom legend is painted “The letter of Marque Brig Grand Turk of 14 guns, Wm. Austin Com’der, Off Pemaquid 1817”. Housed in a modern birdseye maple frame with gray linen liner. An old label from the Fenway Art Center Boston, Mass is affixed to back stretcher. SIZE: 25-3/4” x 36”. CONDITION: Relined, craquelure. Inpainting and restoration to sky.
