UNSIGNED (American, 19th Century) PORTRAIT OF THE BRIG TURK. Oil on canvas ship portrait shows a two mast, fully rigged ship sailing right to left. Sails are full with American flag off stern. A smaller boat is seen of stern flying ships pennant “Robin”. The bottom painted legend states “Brig Turk W. H. Chase Portland”. The ship is seen with a colorful figure head, seven figures aboard and a very interesting background of a coastal village scene with shipyards, houses and hills in the background. Housed in a fine lemon-gold modern replacement frame. SIZE: 18” x 24”. CONDITION: Good with inpainting corresponding to three patches on reverse. 9-27564 (2,500-4,000)
