OUTSTANDING PEARLWARE JUG WITH BOXING SCENES. Side of jug has two fighters on each side titled “Spring” and “Langan”. Same transfer on either sides. Top border inside and out of colorful flowers. Flowers also go down outside of handle. Early 19th Century. Tom Spring was born in 1795 and succeeded Tom Crib as Champion of England. He fought two times with John Langen, the Irish Champion. Both bouts went 77 rounds and Spring won both. John Aynsley made jugs and plaques to commemorate the fights in 1824 and 25. SIZE: 9” h.
