JULIEN DUPRE (French, 1851-1910) “THE MID-DAY MEAL”. Oil on canvas scene shows a woman with picnic basket and jug meeting a man seated on a hay pile. He has taken off his straw hat and holds a red kerchief in his hand. She is in typical country Dutch clothing with wood shoes. Several other people are seen in background haying the field. Signed lower right. Housed in a fine gesso decorated gilt frame. Back has attachment from H & K Galleries, Pittsburgh, PA” indicating that it was bought by Carl A. Ilgenfritz on December 3, 1951.
