WILLIAM HENRY HOLMES (American, 1846-1933) COUNTRY LANDSCAPE. Watercolor depicting countryside with trees and landscape. Signed in lower right. Holmes succeeded Thomas Moran as field artist for U. S. Geological Society, 1972. The watercolor that is his is in the collection of National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D. C. He did a number of works of the Southwestern states while there on assignment. SIGHT SIZE: 19-1/2” w x 14-1/2” h. Including matte and gold frame: 25” w x 20” h.
