FINE CHIP CARVED WALNUT BEDWARMER, PROBABLY PENNSYLVANIA. Circa 1775. Of rectangular form, the rectangular molded lid with attached wrought iron carrying handle, profusely chip-carved with concentric circles, ovals and eliptical devices within punch-carved rondels within floral spandrels centering pierced stylized hearts and a central diamond cut out, projecting above the conforming case with hinged door opening to a sheet metal lined interior, the door with wooden latch, the door decorated with chip carved scrolling, stylized flowerheads and hearts centering the carved inscription “ANNO 1775″.The sides and back chip carved with an eight pointed star within a circle within stylized floral spandrels, the whole raised on a carved, molded plinth on turned feet. In black paint over original red wash. SIZE: 8 ” x 9 1/2″ X 8″ . CONDITION: Extremely fine original condition, feet possibly replaced. 9-90848 (2,500-8,500)
