FINE SET OF SIX SOUTHERN CHIPPENDALE CARVED FRUITWOOD CHAIRS, POSSIBLY VIRGINIA. Second half 18th century. Each with the serpentine crest rail with flared backswept ears above the upswept pierced five-ribbed splat with urn-form base set in a cove-molded cleated shoe, joined to the trapezoidal molded rail fitted with slip seat raised on frontal square legs with shaped returns, the rear legs backswept joined by a recessed box stretcher. SIZE: 38-1/2″ h. of back x 17-1/2″ h. of seat. CONDITION: Chairs retain original cleaned finish and framing, no visible restoration or repairs (see detailed photos), ears with old losses, in very good condition overall. 9-90866 (5,000-8,000)
