ANTONIO NICOLO GASPARO JACOBSEN (American, 1850-1921) PORTRAIT OF AN AMERICAN CLIPPER SHIP. Outstanding oil on canvas ship portrait showing a black hulled three-mast ship in full sail sailing right to left. Another possible identification of the ship is the Columbia, built in Bath, Maine in 1871 for Houghton Bros. Back mast flying an American flag sand the front mast having a pilot jack flag. There are fourteen figures on deck. Ship is shown in full sail under a blue with white clouds highlighted in pink. The ocean is well detailed with white caps in shades of green and blue. Signed lower right “Antonio Jacobsen”. Housed in its original regilt molded wood frame. An outstanding example of Jacobsen’s finest work. SIZE: 22″ x 36″. CONDITION: Light craquelure, recently cleaned in very good to excellent condition. In the cleaning process some very tiny specks were inpainted. 9-91619 (30,000-50,000)
