IDENTIFIED SMITH CIVIL WAR CARBINE. Cal .50. 21-1/2” part oct bbl. Made by American Machine Works. This was issued to Edwin N. French of Co. A, 1st. Conn. Cavalry. There is a note “Ret.” at the end of this entry. This record is in the Descriptive Roll books in the National Archives Record Group 94. SN 2852. CONDITION: Brown patina with moderate to heavy pitting overall. Hammer screw is a poor replacement. Stock has been repaired, sanded and is broken again. It is no longer a good fit to the metal.
