IDENTIFIED SMITH CIVIL WAR CARBINE. Cal .50. 21-1/2” part oct bbl. Made by Mass Arms Co. Very faint outlines of the cartouches remain. This carbine was issued to William M. Barkly of Co. I, 3rd MD. Cavalry. This record is in the Descriptive Roll books in the National Archives Record Group 94. Front sight is replaced. SN13840. CONDITION: Gray brown patina with light pitting overall. There is a crack on the right side of the forearm and a sliver is missing on the left. Butt has been repaired, sanded and refinished. Action is good, bore is heavily pitted. 4-49603 FS149 (2,000-3,000)
