WATERGATE COMMITTEE SIGNED DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE. Fascinating item of Watergate memorabilia, which comprises a bicentennial postal copy first day issue of the Declaration of Independence. Signed by the members of the Watergate Committee postal dated October 20, 1972. The antique style document signed in black marker on the edges by six committee members as follows: Sam Ervin; Ed Gurney; Daniel Inouye; Joseph Montoya; Herman Talmadge, Lowell Weicker’s signature. Also Howard Baker, the Committee’s attorney. Housed in a modern decorated molded wood frame behind glass. This is the only copy known to exist. PROVENANCE: Our consignor went to the post office for the First Day Issue and brought the document to Senator Inouye’s office in which he was a constituent of. He requested the signatures and a few months later he received it back. DOCUMENT SIZE: 15-3/4” x 13-3/4”. OVERALL SIZE: 20-1/2” x 18-1/2”. CONDITION: A lightened T-shape on document which may have been as part of the antiqued process. Otherwise very good. 9-27161 (800-1,200)
