OUTSTANDING INLAID SAILOR MADE LADY’S TRAVELING BOX. Hinged lift up lid has inlaid picture in multi-color veneers of a three-mast ship flying flag. In full sail with shaded light wood sails, bluish/green sky and brown walnut ocean. The hull is dark with a light central inlaid band. The oval picture is set into a burl background, which is surrounded by a colorful band and line inlay with dark angled corners. The rosewood box also has panels of burl at all four sides which is surrounded by a decorative band inlay. The interior is fitted with a tray having two covers, nine compartments and central pin cushion. The tray lifts out and reveals an interior compartment lined with colorful wall paper. As fine a box as we have seen. SIZE: 5” h x 12” w x 9-1/2” d. CONDITION: Very good. Lock has evidence of being forced. 9-95492 (3,000-5,000)
