ANTIQUE LABELED ENGLISH OVER THE MANTEL MIRROR. Circa 1810. The back having an original printed label of “Thomas Fentham” indicating “Manufacturer of looking glasses, convex and concave mirrors” (Ref. pp. 215 The Mirror Book by Schiffer, London maker). The gilded white pine three part mirror has classical motif, including columns with leaf and scroll tops surmounted by plinths having ebonized lion masks. A cornice molded top with balls with ebonized Greek key design, below which is a central gilt lion head with trailing scroll vine. PROVENANCE: From a fine Bangor, Maine estate. SIZE: 36-1/2” h x 59-1/2”w. CONDITION: Original glass with some deterioration, some gilt and decoration loss. Generally very good. 9-72062 (500-1,000)
