FABULOUS 17TH CENTURY STYLE FLEMISH CABINET ON STAND. This truly remarkable cabinet is veneered with tortoise shell and has ivory, ebony and scagliola inlays. Drawer fronts and center cabinet outside structure has ormolu mounts and surrounds. Top section has five drawers on each side of a central section, which has one large drawer over a secret drawer over a two door compartment over one drawer. Each of the side drawers have ripple ebony boarder encasing a drawer front with an oval lozenge shaped panel of tortoise shell. This is surrounded by an ormolu decorative band encompassed in a square scagliola panel, which is surrounded by a flat tortoise shell border. The façade of the central section, which includes the three drawers and two doors which is architectural in concept and has three ormolu castings of a man holding up columns. Two ormolu dolphins embellish the broken arch top drawer. The two doors have large tortoise shell window type panels. Again, all surrounded by ormolu scagliola, ebony and ivory trim. When the doors are fully open an elaborated palace interior is presented. The front façade having column fronts and double arch opening The floor is inlaid with a mosaic of ebony and ivory 3/4” squares. Mirrored sides and a squared mirrored panel on the floor in front of three recessed alcoves, which have landscape paintings in back. These alcoves are architecturally formed with peaked crest and gold and silver columns. The ceiling of the interior compartment is painted with a blue and cloudy sky having a sun coming from beneath clouds. The interior of the doors has ten ebony and ivory bordered scagliola panels. The sides of the cabinet have similar but larger panels of this variety. This cabinet sits atop a similar decorated six turned leg stand having two drawers and box stretcher. All resting on small bun feet. Each drawer and door has spring lock mechanism. Key is present. The only drawer without a lock is the secret molding drawer above the central doors. An impressive and unique piece of art in cabinetry, design and utility. We believe this cabinet to be made in the late 19th Century. SIZE: Total is 62-1/2” h x 48” w x 16-1/4” d.
